Well the good news is I just had a very good positive interview for a position, however I have little or no Linux experience that the job requires.
I however seem to have impressed the person who would be my potential supervisor so sometime before thanksgiving he is going to call and quiz me on Linux. I have until then to learn what I can.
That is going to mean that unless I finish the Palin book tonight (unlikely as I’m only on page 47, pretty good so far) no review.
And the blogging is going to be severely limited during that time.
Update: As you can see I might not even have time to finish my sentences.
Wish me luck.

Well there ya go. Which version of Linux? Not that I know much at all about any of them, just curious.
Hi,
When my children came home from university they would tell me that what I really wanted on my computer was a unix. Then they started to talk about linux, which was a scalable unix. However, the installation in those early days was too daunting.
Finally the day came when my son installed my first Mandrake distro (Mandrake is now Mandrivia). My kids were correct. Linux enables me to use my computer the way I have always wanted to.
The important thing to remember is that you will be able to find the tools to learn what you need to learn, and to do what you need to do. Sure, documentation is sometimes sparse, but there are many “communities” that can be very helpful. As my son constantly reminds me, google is your friend.
The open source world expects one to do research (don’t use up peoples time asking questions whose answers can be found with google), and a willingness to put work into finding solutions (and then sharing said work with the community.)
You will be in my prayers.

I don’t know but I’ll just have to crash on it
I suspect the employer is looking at it in a server not desktop environment.
Pretty good odds we are talking Red Hat. I have a copy of the Red Hat Certified Engineer Linux Study guide. It’s based on RH3 but most of the fundamentals stay the same. If you want to borrow it let me know. Casual 750 + pages of linux fun. If you want to dive right in and install it download CentOS (free) which is Red hat with the logos stripped out.
I gave him a call he basically said learn the line commands and avoid Ubuntu.
So I’m on it.
Oh and BTW Mike Keep Jan 2nd open.
