Two nasty thoughts…

…one about the past and one about the present.

Nasty Thought #1: All this draft nonsense:

Do you get the feeling that MSNBC and the left are pushing and talking draft right now because they are afraid of Gen Petraeus? Not afraid of him politically but afraid of him as a general. I have the horrible and uncharitable feeling that they are afraid he will actually win this war.

Success in the war would mean a more powerful US. One more likely to act rather than talk. The concept of the US military as a force never to be used is even more sacred to the left than the first black president. They aren’t in a position to attack Petraeus so the only way to counter him is to get the country talking draft. With a high unemployment rate and college so expensive it is a tempting solution to several social/economic problems but it would scare the britches off of many in the ME generation.

The left has never lost their love of 60’s radicalism, it was their greatest moment, it is their dream to bring it back in living color.

Such an appraisal is not very fair to most of the left and is as I said a nasty thought, but right now it is stuck in my head and won’t come out.

Nasty Thought #2 Al Gore

For years I’ve wondered why Al Gore didn’t assert himself during the Clinton Impeachment stuff. It would have been up to Gore to talk to the president and say it was time for him to go. If he had conventional wisdom says he would have easily won election in 2000 and maybe even in 2004. Not only did he not assert himself but he after the impeachment vote made that ludicrous speech calling Mr. Bill “One of our greatest presidents” (talk about grading on a curve)! In my mind the question has always been: Why did he play along?

I have the nasty feeling that question has now been answered. Does anyone believe for one moment that if the Clintons knew Gore had some ahem “interesting diversions” they wouldn’t have held that over him? Al understood that people judge a Rogue differently than a “strait arrow”. It’s the expectations game. People were not surprised that Clinton was messing around and judged him accordingly, but Gore? He would be judged by his strait arrow image.

Again this is a nasty thought and assumes Gore’s guilt but I can’t get it out of my head.

Are these thoughts a sign I am becoming paranoid or am I just becoming more street savvy? What do you think?

Hillbuzz gets it and so will Gore

My wife although sharing many political opinions with me gets weary of it very quickly. While I go to Instapundit, and Hotair and The Other McCain in the morning she goes to People online.

That’s why this post linked by Glenn at Hillbuzz is so wise:

This EW blurb means, in our opinion, that Gore’s fall is going to actually be covered in the national Media. They’ll have to, because so many people read EW, People, and those other sites that if the Media doesn’t actually cover this story, people will wonder why they’re deliberately ignoring it. Unlike 90% of everything else that goes on in politics, which regular non-politically-interested Americans ignore, if they see Gore talked about on EW’s site, but not on MSNBC, CNN, and in the New York Times and other places, they will start asking questions.

Wow.

This story really and truly could bring both Gore and his cult of Anthropogenic Global Warming crashing down.

Instead of people’s eyes glassing over when I mention this they will know what I’m talking about, its actually the same dynamic that has made the attacks on the Tea Party movement so ineffectual.

Will it make one of the tabloid TV shows? If it does it’s all over.

The Kagan vote of Arlen Specter will be quite interesting

Glenn Reynolds links to this post at Cato concerning Specter’s questioning of Kagan and dissatisfaction with her answers.

The most memorable part of today’s first session of questioning (9am till after 1pm) was undoubtedly Arlen Specter pressing the nominee to answer questions about various lawsuits of special concern to him … Specter was extremely dissatisfied, to the point where his vote is legitimately in doubt.

Why is this so interesting? Well Specter’s time in the senate will be over in January. He has been rejected by democratic primary voters and no longer needs to please him and can’t and won’t get anything from Republicans. Thus for the first time in decades has absolutely no political skin in the game.

This vote will likely be one of the few times where he will be voting solely on what he actually thinks. I don’t know if anyone really cares but it will be interesting to see.

…at the Tea Party Forum, now what did the people who attended have to say?

We started with Charlie:

I’ve actually talked to Charlie before at the conservative forum of the commonwealth.

I then talked to Elaine and Ann but we were interrupted by the start of the forum.

When the candidates were done we went back to see what they had to say.

Elaine’s thought that both parties are the same might be echoed by Eric Erickson these days.

And a quick round up from me:

Bottom line is was a good event, the Twin City Tea Party it forces local media to at least notice Tea Party events without putting a set of horns on us, local reps were put in the position to answer voters directly and we got to see their prospective replacements function when challenged. Kudos for the Border Grille & Bar for hosting.
