Morning Joe: Bill Russell! Bill Russell!

I wasn’t awake till I heard about Bill Russell.

6:59 a.m. Can’t have Tina Brown or Christa Freeland without a hit on both Miss California and Sarah Palin. Then again topless shots of Miss California is news.

7:01 a.m. Maria Bartiromo is still one of the most beautiful women on the news. Classic Italian face.

7:02 a.m. They are talking about my pet peeve, Tina Brown is EXACTLY right about the facebook etc and remembering pictures.

7:07 a.m. 9 hours sleeping 2 hours eating, no wonder they have no time to keep the Germans from invading.

7:08 a.m. Maria notes maybe we are heading toward socialism.

7:10 a.m. Tina is also right about believability too. Maria say we can see what is going on too. These two are on a roll.

7:12 a.m. You know the semi regular live chats are a pretty good idea.

7:21 a.m. ah HA evil CNN leaf blowers!

7:23 a.m. I’m sorry having our Treasury Sec talking about tax loopholes is just funny.

7:42 a.m. Good think Mika isn’t here for this interview

7:51 a.m. Oh Angeline Jolie likes a book on wars that’s a vast enforcement.

7:53 a.m. Hass is full of it. I’d say just the opposite, the first war ended up with slaughter in the south when people tried to overthrow Saddam, it ended up with the corrupt UN sanctions that enriched Iraqi Saddamites and the Kurds kept getting hit. Today Saddam is gone, Iraq is democratic and the region and the world is better for it. This deserves its own post.

8:09 a.m. Maria’s face is shocked at even the thought of the bailout of papers.

8:11 a.m. If you think the NYT is going to check out Obama if he is doing something wrong, then Joe you are delusional.

8:13 a.m A public trust? You have to have trust before you can have a public trust.

8:25 a.m. They aren’t going to beat big bang theory, not with an old Chevy Chase.

8:41 a.m. Why do we need to convert to a green economy?

8:43 a.m. For God’s sake Pense why not point out that when you raise cafe standards you cost lives, you also could have mentioned that US also creates more that 25% of the wealth and innovations.

8:46 a.m. Bill Russell and not Michael Jordan is the greatest Basketball player ever and the greatest team player ever.

8:48 a.m. “We came from different tribes… but what we brought allowed us to be friends.”

8:49 a.m. Barnicle must be on cloud nine.

8:50 a.m. “I played for the Celtics, I didn’t play for Boston.” that is a strong statement. O’Donnell: “You did more to advance race relations in Boston than Martin Luther King.”

Via The Other McCain I found this post at Hotmes

Tonight I met Gina and Rachael. I hope I’m spelling both of those correctly, but who knows?

Either way, they wanted to ask me about my schooling. I’m getting my MA. I didn’t say where (Johns Hopkins), just said I was getting it. I told them I just had to write my thesis. The obvious question followed: what am I writing my thesis on?

I carefully explained that I am writing my thesis on the multi-billion dollar industry that is the abortion industry. That the American public is fooled into thinking that this is about a woman’s right to choose, or a child’s right to life but, realistically, this is about a multi-billion dollar industry.

Little did I realize that I was speaking to a Planned Parenthood supporter. Even as I told her that PP brings in one-third of its profits from abortion (over one billion dollars per year) she couldn’t grasp what I was saying.

The post is interesting since the young lady she was talking to didn’t want to hear her “heroes” had feet of clay but I found this comment on the post even more interesting:

you don’t speak retarded? well, what about ignorant, do you speak that?
who uses the word retarded any more? don’t you have a clue how terrible that word is? don’t you know that when you use the word retarded you offend and demean people with special needs? you’re so busy trying to stop abortions, you should take one minute and give respect to those who are living.
something for you to think about.

The rightous offence simply leaps off the page. The actual subject, the arguments and the reality of what happened doesn’t matter, she used the word retarded she much be EVIL.

It seems to me that she could write just as good a thesus on the offense industry. A lot of people make a lot of money being offended and demanding payment because of it. Our friends on the left make careers out of it. (Read Sharpton, Jackson et/al).

More than that however it is meant as a conversation stopper she said retarted can’t trust what she says. He said Negro, must be a racist.

This isn’t offense, this translates into “you shut up” to the person charged and to everyone else “you don’t listen!”.

That is the goal and purpose, don’t be retarded and fall for it. The word retarded is defined as:

Occurring or developing later than desired or expected; delayed.

Gina and Rachel were retarded, they let their ignorance and unwillingness to accept an actual fact delay the their relization of a simple fact.

If you allow Mary’s offence over the use of the word to keep you from reading or conidering Monique’s argument, then you will be retarded from learning too.

And frankly although Bob’s long Josey Wales post is pretty good, I think Monique’s post illustrates the situation better simply by example.

Update: Maybe related I think the same tactic will be used here.

…from the greenroom comes the story of chief Red Specter.

The Ransom of Red Chief is a short story written by O. Henry in the early 1900’s about a child kidnapped for ransom in a small town by two criminals. But the criminals did not know what they were getting into, as the exuberantly mischievous child (nicknamed “Red Chief”) drove the criminals so crazy that they keep lowering the ransom price. But Red Chief’s parents would have nothing of it; they demanded money from the kidnappers to take their child back.

I loved reading the story as a child, and learned many lessons from it (for example, don’t wish too hard for something, you might get it). Apparently not many Democrats read the Ransom of Red Chief, or they would not have hooted and hollered so loudly when Arlen Specter announced that he was joining the Democratic caucus.

The whole thing is a exercise in schafenfreude. Particularly when the media has gone Specter Gaga and anointed it as a sign of doom for the republican party. When democrats fail to succeed with that 60th vote in the D column they will become the failures and we will reap the rewards. The netroots see it but what can they do other than support someone else in the primary?

Worm turning anyone?

Time to add Legal Insurrection to the blogroll I think.

MSNBC worth paying for?

Newsbusters covers the Broohahhah concerning many cable networks making MSNBC a pay network.

With that all as pretext, readers should be aware that cable and satellite companies have not dropped MSNBC. Instead, in some cases, and for whatever the reason, its accessibility may have become more expensive and its position in the channel lineup may have changed.

Kos’ kids are blaming the ratings on the move:

In the past few weeks, it has come to my personal attention that one cable or satellite company after another has been quietly moving MSNBC away from the news channel section of their lineup and into the premium section, or into the stratosphere of three and four digit channels.

As a result, when the ratings came out this week, it was no surprise to see how MSNBC is now a distant third behind CNN and FOX.

I think it’s exactly backwards. I think MSNBC is like Turner Classic Network. It is a niche network and the cable companies have figured out that they don’t get any bang by giving it away. The Kos kids WILL pay for their MSNBC because they are the niche that MSNBC markets for (except for Morning Joe)

I like TCN but if I want it I have to pay for it because most people don’t care for the old stuff enough to pay for it. (Actually I watch the few movies they offer on demand free since I can’t afford it right now). This is MSNBC all over.

They are programming for the Choir and the Choir will pay.
