As you might have noticed the fundraiser that I pined to the top of the blog yesterday is no longer there. That’s because our stated goal has been reached.

We managed about 40% when it 1st went up. Another 20% through a facebook link from Baldilocks. When I came home from work I saw that Glenn at Instapundit had linked (thanks much) and the rest came in and more. As it was for a specific goal and said goal is made naturally the post is no longer on top, anything extra that comes in will go to paying down debt til it’s gone. May I up front thank all who kicked in and note that you will all be getting individual notes of thanks likely this weekend when I’m off from my day job.

By the time you read this I will have called our new host/provider to be they have been informed by email that the goal is made and the work can begin.

Here is what will happen blogging wise during the move:

At DatechGuyblog.com things will continue here as they have for the past week. I will be writing at least a post a day here, using the “quickdraft” feature which allows only plain text, no graphics or links and no edits. Once the draft is saved I go into the Posts menu and either post or schedule them.

Any members of DaMagnificent Seven who wish to write plan text posts will be doing the same although I will likely be doing the scheduling of the actual posts via the dashboard.

While this is going on I will be writing regularly at the original wordpress blog at Http://datechguy.wordpress.com which is now our blog backup. This will allow us post normally with html links etc. Our paid writers have accounts at that site and may at their discretion post there if they aren’t posting here. Any members of DaMagnificent Seven who wish to take the transition time off may do so at their discretion.

Once we are fully at the new site the wordpress location will again be our backup site and additionally, if I can pull it off, become DaTechGuy’s home for retired bloggers.

The primary goal is to get everything moved so we can function normally again, but this is also a good time to clean up a few things that have slowed down the site considerably over the years. Furthermore if our new host has design suggestions that might improve the site visually I’m of course interested provided that said changes do not significantly delay the move.

I have no idea if the end results will grow readership, bring in more regular revenue and make this the top 100 conservative blog it once was, that would be fantastic result.

But for me, if when all is said and done if we remain a good site with fine writers providing insight, opinion and some original reporting that informs our regular readers who have supported us over the years. A site that still pays our writers and our bills with a little bit left over that will be fine with me.

Thank you for deciding we’re still worth it either by your funds or just by stopping by and making us a part of your day. We have no demand on the money you have worked for or the slice of your brief time on earth that you spend here other than your decision to give it to us.

That any of you have made the choice to do so is, to me, a great honor.

Well shortly after we made our goal to cover the quote I was given to move the site and pay for a years hosting (thanks all) and authorized the folks who will be our new hots to start the wheels rolling on the move our site rather than just being a pain crashed and burned.

I was told by our current host that the site should be back up within 24 hours, that was 12 hours ago. I’ve been told by our new host who will be also looking to clean things up a bit that they have done nothing that should have brought the site down. IT people at work suspect a hack but I have no evidence to support that theory so I’ll see where things are tomorrow and go from there

Tomorrow I should know more but the are few things more depressing that to have two instalanches wasted on a site that’s down.

——————————–

The only thing crashing worse than my site right now are the Boston Red Sox who were unable to hold a lead against Kansas City on Wednesday. As I write the game is in the top of the 10th but it’s amazing how far the team has fallen in just a few months. But in fairness having lived through 40 years of the curse and having seen them win 4 World Series in 15 years I have a hard time going nuts over a bad season.

In fairness to the Red Sox I did advise them to stand pat. It was good advice as they weren’t going to win anything this year anyways.

I’ve been spending a lot more time on twitter than I usually do lately and I got into an interesting debate yesterday. The Washington Post put up their piece about how it’s up to 2nd amendment supporters to solve the shoootings problem, my suggestion was brief

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

What was really funny was I had been challenged on the idea that armed citizens could stop shootings. Apparently leftists had never heard of such a thing but an instapundit search for “good guy with a gun” produced so many results that I could have tweeted them to the fellow who objected all night.

The real story of course is he never heard of any of those stories because the national media doesn’t consider them newsworthy. See DaTechGuy’s 3rd law of media outrage for why.

(I still think it’s all because of the post Christian era as I said here)

Speaking of stories the MSM doesn’t consider newsworthy the small scale cleanup in Baltimore was a great success that impressed residents and apparently pissed off the Editorial page of the Baltimore sun which seems to consider picking up trash in bad neighborhoods racist.

Of course if they really want all that trash gone fast the easiest way is to hold a Tea Party rally there. History tells us that Tea Party members always leave such places cleaner than when they got there.

Finally as the main site is down here is a quick FYI as to what will happen that was about to go up there before everything died.

Assuming the main site goes back up tomorrow the plan is to do the move over the next several weeks and hopefully fix some site issues in the process. Primary posting will be done here and assuming the main site returns tomorrow there will be some text only posts going up there too. There were in fact 3 I was going to schedule when everything blew up.

Some of my writers will be posting here (like Christopher Harper) some at the other site (once it’s back up) and a few may take some time off, but I still have a lot to say so you’ll be seeing me daily hopefully at both sites but at least here till the move. Once the move is done this will again become the backup site until I can convert it into DaTechGuy’s home for retired bloggers.

Update: The site is back up (still with the problems it had before going down) and there is a lesson there about listening to your guardian angel.

On WEEI today all the talk was about who the Redsox should trade for at the deadline that’s coming up to bolster their bullpen.  I have a simple and concise answer.

Nobody.

if we were say two games away from the Yanks and had a chance to bypass the wildcard round then perhaps my answer might be different but for now the answer is “stand pat”.

Why really simple the cost benefit ratio.

Given the price of what is out there combined with the weakness of the Redsox farm system the price for any player who might make a different is prohibitive, in fact the price paid might be high enough to take us out of contention in 2020.

And since the reward of such a move would be a shot, a shot mind you at a single winner take all elimination game before even getting to the playoffs any price that hurt our chances in 2020 just isn’t worth it.

Right now we have an offensive team that is incredible and will all be under contract next year.  We have a starting rotation that is having a down season but there is no reason to believe that said down seasons will extend into next year.

Trading a Bradley JR will increase the team ERA as would a trade of Benintendi.  While I like Brock Holt without a solid man at 2nd I don’t think losing Chavez is wise.

So my advice to the Red Sox is keep a stiff upper lip and try to ride it out.  Pick up a closer in the off season when the price will be lower and just win what you can now, don’t jeopardize the future for an uncertain return.

FYI   The reason why I’m posting is yet another GoDaddy issue which makes it impossible for me to edit the body of any new or existing post (although already written and scheduled posts will go up as normal).  They will graciously fix for a $400 update, a migration to a new server and a 10 day wait (oh and I have to do the migration unless I want to pay an additional fee).

It seems that every time I ask for tech support the result is a large bill and a site down for a week or more.  Given the drop in traffic and tip jar hits and the displeasure I’ve had in dealing with them I’m not inclined to go along.  As this has all happened in the last 4 hours I’ve not had a night to sleep on it but here are my plans in order

Plan A:  check with a friend of mine who does hosting, if it can be done affordably and quickly move there.

Plan B:  Since I’m already here move to wordpress and update this blog existing moving the registration of datechguyblog.com here and see what the cost and timeframe will be to migrate my existing stuff over.

Plan C:  Just blog at the free site and do no frills blogging,

Plan D:  As the hits and the tipjar hits are way down chuck the whole thing and pay off my debts as best I can over time.

A & B would allow things to go on as they are, C  would likely mean the end of DaMagnificent seven and D would mean the end of everything.  Given the amount of choices out there and the drop in traffic I don’t know how many people would really miss us but I’d hate to close down with an election around the corner.  I may not be a big conservative voice but with so many of us being censored we can use every one we’ve got.

I’d like to know what you think.

Woke up this morning unable to log into the main blog, so I’ll be doing some posting here as time permits. Seems to be a godaddy issue
