Does Anybody on the Right Still Remember How Winning Elections Works?

Looking at the situation in Washington I see stupidity & cupidity both in DC by “conservatives” and online from “conservatives”

First in Washington:

I find it completely unbelievable that the GOP has not forced the Democrats to do an actual filibuster. This could have been done months ago and would have served two purposes both which would have been positive for the GOP.

The first of course was the possibility that they would be able to get a vote on the “Save” act. Given that voter ID is an 80-20 issue it is something that would help republicans nationally & force Democrats to insist that women and minorities are too ignorant to get ID’s.. The falseness of this argument is so easily proved as almost everyone has ID) & the cries of “racism” so phony (where are the lawsuits against Banks by lawyers seeking a quick buck) that it would increase GOP chances in the falls.

There is also of course the possibility that such a vote will pass. If it does the Democrats who rely on cheating to win are finished.

I’m convinced this hasn’t happened because quite a few members of the Senate on the GOP side are afraid of angering people who might have a desire to keep this from becoming law. As long as the bill is not in a position to be passed it costs them nothing to talk up the bill, but the moment there is a possibility that it could become a law they’re in trouble.

I think this is the real reason why the vote hasn’t been called. He’s protecting members of his own caucus from a vote they don’t want to take.

That’s a disgrace.

But the disgrace & the bad decisions aren’t only in Washington I see them also online among the base and it comes in two flavors.

Flavor #1 is the “Why isn’t everything done now!”.

By every since objective measure Donald Trump has accomplished more than any “conservative” president has managed since Reagan and more. Moreover he is managing to do this with all of Washington, all of media, all of academia & every person our enemies can buy online & in Washington doing all they can to stop him.

Moreover despite all the left/media claims he is doing all of this within the law, not defying courts, or trampling on the the Constitution. This upsets some people who have spent a life getting instant gratifications but the reality of life is actually doing things takes time. Particularly if you’re not looking to break the law or become a dictator.

That’s annoying enough (& I think augmented by bot-farms & paid folks trying to push this “Trump is a failure” business).but what really pisses me off is the reactions when we actually win.

The president got his AG choice passed 50-49 and while leftists are screaming bloody murder that it happened quite a few conservatives are screaming because the margin wasn’t higher because some GOP senators like Susan Collins didn’t vote for him.

For a party that’s supposed to know history this kind of thing is nonsense.

If folks knew their history they would know that this is standard fare, as I wrote about in the early days of the blog during the Obamacare debate:

The background: In the book was a Congressman Leo O’Brien who had promised a vote to Sam Rayburn on an issue and was getting killed at home over it. Since his word had been given (Yes that makes a difference, I still believe that one’s word is sacrosanct) Tip told him he had no choice but to go to Rayburn and ask to be released. (How hard must that have been) I’ll let Rayburn and O’Neill finish the story:

“…you gave me your word and I expect you to keep it. However I can certainly appreciate your situation, so here’s what I’ll do for you. On the day of the vote I want to see you in the front row. Keep your eye on the doorkeeper. If I don’t need your vote, Fishbait Miller will give you the sign and you’ll be free to vote your district.”…

…when Leo took his seat in the front row, he looked around and saw thirteen other guys that Sam had in his pocket in case he needed them. It wasn’t just Leo. The entire front row was sitting there and waiting for the nod from Fishbait Miller.

This is the real question that we don’t know the answer to. Does Nancy Pelosi have the votes and is just deciding who sits in the front row or is she scrambling for votes? And if the media knows what the truth is will they tell us?

It turned out she had the votes and made it a point to allow as many Democrats as she could in swing districts to vote against it & make a fuss about it.

Now Susan Collins is the last GOP member of congress in an increasingly blue New England. Despite being clearly the most liberal member of the GOP in the Senate & despite the complete ineptness of her opponents in Maine (only Donald Trump is more lucky in his enemies) her seat is still at risk. A vote in “opposition” to Trump might annoy but in the end it wasn’t needed for the win and if it gives her a better chance to win in November it decreases the chance of the left taking charge of the upper house.

Yet people are crying online that “true” conservatives in Maine should vote against her over it or that they hope she loses for voting against Trump.

Again there is an element of bot & paid actors in this bit but there are plenty of others who are either just click baiting or forgetting how keeping a majority in a country works.

The difference between being in the majority & controlling the agenda & being in the minority is huge & how huge is evident by the desperation Democrats have to get that majority back.

Let’s not help them by our own stupidity or let being annoyed cause us to make stupid decisions that we will later regret.

The Key Question Concerning that Baker +15 over Warren Pol for MA Senate

Breitbart reports a poll that might cause the left some grief in the quest to keep an evenly divided Senate:

This is not a surprise for several reasons:

  1. Charlie Baker was an incredibly popular governor
  2. Charlie Baker was an incredibly competent governor
  3. On Social issues you would be hard pressed to fit a playing card between Baker & Warren

And as Breitbart notes Baker is a lot more popular than Warren:

Senator Warren has significantly higher unfavorable numbers than her fellow Democrats statewide and that seems to be creating an opening for Baker, who always enjoyed large amounts of cross-party appeal. Looking at the cross tabs, Republicans seem to coalesce behind Baker (79%) in a way that Democrats do not around Warren (56%), and Baker leads with independent/unenrolled voters 2-1 at 57-26%.

Warren’s favorability rating is 5 points above water, with 49 percent finding her favorable  and 44 percent saying she is unfavorable, including 35 percent who find her “very unfavorable.” As Craney pointed out, her favorability rating indicates she is far less secure than some of her fellow prominent elected Democrat officials in the Bay State.

Now while it would be nice to have a Ted Cruz or a John Kennedy (of LA) win a US senate race in Massachusetts, with the current state of our state voting population there would be a better chance of the Red Sox signing me as a 60 year old pinch runner off the bench next week than an actual full blown conservative winning a statewide election for US Senate. Until and unless we educate and persuade the electorate Baker is likely the best we can realistically get and in terms of competence he would be a giant step forward for Massachusetts, plus it’s always useful to have a person with executive experience in the Senate.

This should send the fear of God into the left although there would be several bright sides for the left:

  • Baker would almost certainly be voting with Democrats 10-20% of the time
  • He would be the MSM’s “goto” republican on any social issues we attempt to advance
  • He could reliably be expected to attack a President Trump and make any opposition to him be by definition “bipartisan”

But that extra vote to give the gavel to McConnell and stop Biden judges in their tracks would outweigh those disadvantages.

However there is one question that needs to be asked before we break out the bubbly.

Has anyone asked Charlie Baker if he wants the job?

Right now Charlie Baker is president of the NCAA. I’m sure like all jobs it has ups and downs but I suspect it’s a job he enjoys and I don’t doubt for one moment that it’s a job he doing well because it rewards competence which Baker has by the bucketful.

So can someone explain to me why Baker would leave that job to enter a race where he’ll be targeted, attacked and get grief from an incredibly polarized electorate and even risk physical attack (and he’s a really big target, seriously that guy is tall).

Why would he abandon the sweet gig he has for all that grief? I don’t see him doing it and until someone convinces me otherwise I’m not going to get my knickers in an uproar.

The fraud of John Fetterman

John Fetterman, the Democrat nominee for U.S. senator in Pennsylvania, is one of the biggest fakes to seek political office.

At 53, he’s basically never held a paying job outside of government, owing mainly to his family’s wealth. 

Born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, to an insurance executive and his wife, Fetterman got a public policy degree from Harvard and traveled more than 250 miles west to the small town of Braddock, where he worked as a member of AmeriCorps, the domestic version of the Peace Corps.

Fetterman, the carpetbagger from eastern Pennsylvania, had found his niche in the western part of the state.

In 2005, he ran for mayor when the town had 3,000 souls, about two-thirds of whom were black, promising to clean up crime and make the economy better. Amazingly, he won the race by one vote: 149-148. Unsurprisingly, some election day shenanigans allowed three people to cast ballots who had been turned away at the polls. For whatever reason, Fetterman became a media and elite darling despite his tattoos, hoodie and shorts, and excess pounds. 

The Guardian described John Fetterman as the “coolest mayor” in the country. The New York Times told its readers that Fetterman had “turned the busted town of Braddock, PA, into a national symbol of hope, hard work and authentic blue jeans.

Fetterman was feted at The Aspen Institute and with a TED talk.

As Tucker Carlson put it: “It’s so perfect: homesteading, organic vegetables, art installations, and also, again, inevitably a heaping dose of climate theology, all imported from Harvard. Fetterman imposed on a town with no jobs, carbon caps on Braddock, Pennsylvania, and he claimed these carbon caps would somehow — he never explained how — bring more manufacturing jobs back. He called this initiative “Carbon Caps = Hard Hats.” So expensive, unreliable energy will mean more manufacturing jobs, and yet somehow no one laughed at him, so John Fetterman kept going.” 

During his 14 years as mayor, he rarely attended town council meetings and argued incessantly with the black leadership of Braddock.

In 2013, Fetterman said he heard a loud sound, which he thought was gunfire. He grabbed a shotgun and followed a jogger, who was black, and confronted him. The jogger said Fetterman pointed the shotgun at his chest and face. No charges were filed, and no apology was made.

Imagine what would have happened if a Republican running for ANY political office did such a thing?

In 14 years as mayor, Fetterman saw nearly half of the people leave. Crime and the economy aren’t any better. 

But the Democrats elected him as lieutenant governor in 2019 and nominated him for U.S. Senate. 

Fetterman’s stands on the issues are to the left of Bernie Sanders, whom he endorsed for president. Fetterman makes AOC seem sane!

I can only hope that the voters of Pennsylvania finally see through his facade and media hype to return him as an ordinary citizen to live out his years in Braddock or Aspen.
