Experience keeps a dear School, but Fools will learn in no other

One of the things that I’ve always found amazing is that people repeatedly fall for the same old tricks. A great example of this is question 1 in Massachusetts which in their ads promises a giant windfall of tax revenue for all kinds of things by raising taxes on millionares.

Now this has been tried in states like NY and it has led to the plunging of tax revenues as people already with reasons to leave blue states have decided to take off.

Massachusetts being Massachusetts I don’t expect it to be easy to convince people that they are cutting their own throats but it seems to be there is one way that it could be done. If I was running the campaign to stop question one my ad would look something like this:

Hi I’m governor Ron DeSantis of the Great State of Florida
As governor of Florida is it my duty to advance the interests of my state and its people.
That’s why I urge voters in Massachusetts to vote YES on Question 1
Question 1 will enact a significant tax on your state’s highest earners who also tend to the the most mobile
New York state enacted such a tax and now tens of thousands of high earning and productive New Yorkers are now residents of Florida enjoying our warm weather, beautiful beaches and low taxes
We look forward to augmenting that number with tens of thousands more high earning and productive people from Massachusetts who will decide not to wait till retirement age to enjoy all the pleasures and opportunities that Florida offers
And have no fear, you can rest assured that my administration in Florida will pay back your generosity in providing us which such citizens by continuing our efforts to increase the diversity of your state via bus and plane so your state that takes pains to declare itself a sanctuary for all who come to America illlegally can demonstrate the virtue that it signals to all the world. It’s a win win!
So do your share to help keep Florida great and vote ‘Yes” on Question 1 this fall. My administration will be forever grateful.

I admit you might have to trim the wording a little for a one minute ad but once you have it down I’d be running this ad on a loop throughout the state.

Another primary, another never/trump republican bites the dust:

After a tight race, incumbent Representative Peter Meijer lost to Trump loyalist John Gibbs in Michigan’s GOP primary contest for the state’s third congressional district on Tuesday.

There was a time when Meijer’s re-election in the primary might have been considered a sure thing, then Trump endorsed his opponent:

“John Gibbs is a fabulous talent who loves the State, our Military, and our Vets. He will always protect our Second Amendment, our Southern Border, and the Police—there will be no defunding with John!,” Trump said of Gibbs.

Meijer, on the other hand, was one of ten Republicans to vote to impeach Trump over his role in inciting the January 6 Capitol riot. His election prospects seemed to sour after that move, with progressive polling agency Impact Research finding in a February poll that likely voters preferred any other Republican to Meijer by more than 40 points.

The tributes are pouring in for yet another useful idiots for the NeverTrump Democrat Left who has suffered the tragic result of his days of usefulness coming to a close:

I for one am shocked SHOCKED that the left did not repay him for being a stand up guy for their cause and instead used his vote to retire him from congress for mere party gain and join in their grief in their discoveries that the Democrat Left is not populated by honorable people out for the good of the country.

Adam Kinzinger for one thinks Democrats should be ashamed of themselves, but he’s not so ashamed as to jump off the Jan 6th witch-hunt bandwagon that is sending ordinary Americans to jail:

It’s first worth noting that Guy Reffitt never even entered the Capitol Building. He remained outside on the plaza. So he didn’t destroy or steal any property inside the Capitol. It’s also unclear how he could possibly have “obstructed Congress” by standing outside on the plaza. As to his “interfering with police officers,” it’s true that Reffitt did approach the police line, but he never drew his firearm. He shouted at the police, but then retreated when one of them pepper sprayed him.

No word on if the seven plus years Mr. Reffitt got for not entering the capital and not drawing his gun and not touching anyone on January 6th causes any of the people crying over Meijer’s election any grief, but I doubt it.

Don’t worry he doesn’t blame the Democrats he blames those horrible GOP voters:

Maybe the fact that Meijer voted to impeach the cult leader was all the voters in his district needed to know to toss him out. There never has been and, God willing, never will be an impeachment vote against a president as righteous and justified as the one Meijer cast on January 13 of last year, yet the GOP voters of his district punished him for it by taking away his job. That’s not a function of Democratic chicanery or GOP voters “going along” with it. It’s proof of Republican moral rot.

Normally I wouldn’t bother to have even clicked in any piece offered by Allapundit but I’m glad I clicked on this one. Remember the next time these folks ask you for subscription money what they think of conservatives that they are the alternate media for.

What an idea — that a paid, professional “conservative media” should, occasionally at least, feature actual conservatives working for it.

If you’re worried about ol’ Allah, don’t be. He’s got all that Pierre Omidyar grifter money coming — the NeverTrumpers are the highest paid fringe political group in history — and he’s still doing what he loves to do, trolling conservatives.

The guy who is forever complaining about conservatives forever “owning the libs” continues perverting what is supposed to be a “news site of conservative views and opinion” into a nonstop exercise in “owning the cons:”

That may or may not be true but here’s the real question that’s worth asking:

Regardless of my opinion of Allahpundit and his current Opinions at Hotair he was one of the most senior writers in the place and thus likely had a lot of clout over what got linked, what made the headlines section etc. Given his seniority there that would not be out of line but I suspect those choices might have proved costly given the “Join VIP” model to comment.

It will be interesting to see if there is a change of direction in terms of the headline and how much linkage places like the Bulwark etc get once he’s gone.

Given that Sept/Oct is the leadup to election 2020 that pivot might be very significant.

The big political news from last week, unless that is, your only news sources are MSNBC and CNN, was not the prime-time January 6 show trial masquerading as a hearing, but the resounding vote by San Francisco voters to recall radical leftist so-called prosecutor Chesa Boudin. 

Oh, he is a piece of work, this one. Boudin’s parents were Weather Underground terrorists, both of whom served long prison terms for their crimes, including murder. Boudin’s guardians were two other ex-Weather Underground terrorists, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, he attended an elite private high school, and he is a Yale law school graduate. Boudin was served a translator for Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez. In 2019, campaigning as if he was a woke social worker, Boudin was elected district attorney for San Francisco. “We will not prosecute cases involving quality-of-life crimes,” Boudin the candidate said. “Crimes such as public camping, offering or soliciting sex, public urination, blocking a sidewalk, etc., should not and will not be prosecuted.” Well, I’ll concede this fact to him. Boudin honored his campaign promises.

And criminals received the message. Shoplifting soared under Boudin, as well as what one Nation writer, Sasha Abramsky, called other “low-end crimes,” including burglary and car break-ins. To me, a low-end crime is littering or jaywalking, but I am not a leftist. For many people, particularly renters and the poor, an automobile is their most valuable asset. Low-end? Really? Abramsky, you are quite out of touch, but of course you are, you write for the Nation.

The murder rate went up under Boudin. His misrule was a validation of the Rudy Giuliani’s “broken windows” policy of policing. Notice that I didn’t call it the “broken windows” theory of law enforcement.

I’ve only visited San Francisco once, in 2010, which residents of the City on the Bay probably look back on as “the good old days.” I was appalled by the level of homelessness there, and by all accounts, there are now many more indigents sprawled out on San Franciso sidewalks. Tellingly, during my time there I noticed the strong smell of urine even in the best neighborhoods. Boudin couldn’t smell the pee?

I’ve heard there are Republicans in San Francisco, albeit very few. The two Republican opponents of Nancy Pelosi–her entire district is within the city–collected 11-percent of the vote in 2020. But 60 percent of voters in San Francisco voted to purge Boudin last week. Earlier this month, another Nation writer, Christopher D. Cook, warned of a “centrist uprising” against progressivism in San Francisco. And all of this time, particularly from the left, I’ve been told we need more moderation in our politics, which of course to them means conservatives veering over to their side. In fact, as Democrat policies, from Biden down to Boudin, prove toxic, it’s liberals who are heading to the center, which is best exemplified by Bill Maher’s regular attacks on the far-left. 

Over at the Washington Post, Perry Bacon Jr. warns of centrist Democrats attacking far-left policies on crime. Writing for the New York Times, Shane Goldmacher commented, “Centrists and former law enforcement leaders hailed the successful San Francisco recall as a crushing blow to progressives.”

Oh, those evil centrists, they are taking America down a treacherous moderate path.

Boudin, true to form for any leftist, blamed “right-wing billionaires” for his defeat. Oh, what’s this? Radical leftist billionaire George Soros contributed to an anti-recall political action committee.

The Democrats of course don’t possess the right side of the political spectrum. And they are losing the center. Or perhaps it’s already lost to them. Which leaves the Democratic Party with the extreme left, or to channel Biden’s insult on conservatives which ricocheted against him, the Ultra Left.

One of the enduring principles of the left is to convince Republicans that in order to be elected or re-elected they have to follow the media agenda no matter what.

And some people like Republican Chris Jacobs fall for it:

 Congressman Chris Jacobs (R-27) addressed school safety in a press conference at a VFW post in Lancaster Friday and said he supports a ban on the sale of AR-15s, as well as increasing the minimum age to purchase a firearm to 21. He was joined by New York State gubernatorial candidate and fellow congressman Lee Zeldin (R-1) at the presser.

The Democrats and media were delighted , the GOP not so much:

The Republican and Conservative parties are leaving GOP Rep. Chris Jacobs for dead following his call for a federal ban on assault weapons in response to the massacre by an avowed white supremacist in Buffalo

“This is not the person we endorsed. We did not endorse this Chris Jacobs … he’s actually to the left of [US House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi on this,” Conservative Party state Chair Gerard Kassar told the Post Thursday about his party withdrawing support for Jacobs’ reelection.

And poof, just like that in the year of the coming big red wave a GOP incumbent became unelectable:

Rep. Chris Jacobs is dropping his reelection bid after coming under fire from fellow Republicans for backing a ban on assault weapons. 

The New York Republican said his newfound views on gun control would make a re-election bid difficult and divisive. 

“The last thing we need is an incredibly negative, half-truth-filled media attack, funded by millions of dollars in special interest money coming into our community around this issue of guns and gun violence and gun control,” he said in announcing his withdrawal from the race. 

Which means that instead of a sitting incumbent the left gets to run against a rookie which is exactly the result they where hoping for.

I’d feel sorry for Representative Jacobs if it wasn’t for two things:

  1. He did this to himself.
  2. He will without a doubt become the favorite GOP goto person whenever the left wants someone to hit the GOP on the issue of guns assuring him a place as a MSNBC on CNN Analyst once he leaves office.

At least he will until they decide the useful idiot is no longer useful.
