Regrets I’ve had a few…

…ah Napolitano plays the “regrets” card:

Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano says she regrets that some people took offense over a report warning that right-wing extremist groups were trying to recruit disgruntled troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

It’s a pretty game let me give you an example: I regret that some people take offense over my stand against Gay marriage.

Does that say I think that I’m wrong on Gay marriage? Nope. Does it say that I’m thinking of changing my opinion? Nope. All that says I wish people were not offended by my position, in other words I wish they thought like me.

I regret that people are foolish enough to fall for that nonsense.

…who have absolutely no sympathy for the Pirate Bay guys.

What they were doing was clearly illegal. They knew it was clearly illegal and decided to do it anyway.

It isn’t a question of if the law is right, wrong or stupid. That is a question for another day.

The question is should anyone be shocked or angry that a group of people who knowing the law choose to willingly violate it for years are punished for it.

I say nope.

It’s like the limewire business. I’ve been warning people for years about the dangers of P2P but the thought of paying .99 cents for a song is just too much to bear. So their systems get infected and if they are lucky enough not to get identity and information stolen they still end up paying $100+ dollars to clean it up.

I’m happy to clean these systems but people you are doing this to yourself.

It would be nice to be able to have everything we want for free. It would also be nice to be able to walk down the toughest street in town at 2 a.m. with a full wallet and a beautiful lady on your arm and not have to worry about being robbed or mugged however it is just as realistic.

Wonderful story not withstanding and wise insights acknowledged why do I get the feeling that the media is just waiting for the chance to crash and burn on this lady?

She has a strong faith so that will help her cope when it happens but I have the awful feeling that the press can’t wait for her to fail. Maybe I’m cynical but I think the strong faith is one of the reason why for some he MUST fail.

All I can think of is the song Mr. Tanner. I sure hope I’m wrong.

Arrugh doubly so

Don’t get me wrong the Nato commando’s freeing the hostages is a wonderful thing but Capturing the pirates and then LETTING THEM GO:

NATO Lieutenant Commander Alexandre Fernandes, speaking on board the Portuguese warship Corte-Real, said the 20 fishermen were rescued after a Dutch navy frigate on a NATO patrol responded to an assault on a Greek-owned tanker by pirates firing assault rifles and grenades…

…He said the hostages had been held since last week. The commandos briefly detained and questioned the seven gunmen, he told Reuters, but had no legal power to arrest them.

“NATO does not have a detainment policy. The warship must follow its national law,” he said.

“They can only arrest them if the pirates are from the Netherlands, the victims are from the Netherlands, or if they are in Netherlands waters.”

That’ll put the fear of God into them. Hot Air says it best:

Sweden was tougher on The Pirate Bay this week than NATO was on actual pirates.

I just can’t wrap my head around this.
