Unfortunately, Letterman is still alive. And people were writing me because of his misogynistic “jokes” about Sarah Palin and her daughter. But unlike my jokes, Letterman’s aren’t funny (and let that serve as notice that the humor portion of this post is now officially over).
The entire post decries Letterman and the rest of the left for it’s silence on this now and last year:

The haters don’t care about Palin’s political positions. They’re driven by some inchoate impulse to crucify the woman herself. To rape her with words.
She closes with a warning:
That’s how it works. Sexism isn’t selective, and misogyny isn’t something that only applies to certain women. The dudes can’t tell the difference.
Every joke about raping Sarah Palin or her daughter is a joke about raping you.
We are going to disagree about abortion, religion (hence the Godbag bit in the title) Gay marriage and a whole lot of other things, but this woman is an honest voice and I’d trust her opinion over someone who beats their breast over Imus’ Nappy headed ho’s but is silent over the Letterman remarks.

Great post. I am a liberal ‘feminist’ who reads Dr. Socks and agree with her comments about Gov. Palin 100%. She is honest and consistent, but best of all she doesn’t let her ideology blind her to the terrible affliction called Obamyopia. The woman may be ultra-progressive, but she ain’t blind yet! Don Imus was fired by NBC justly for his racist comment. CBS should have fired that pathetic pedo-perv Letterman the night he let his venom out to poison the airwaves.

It’s actually Sarh Palin’s who’s ushering in the epiphany and end of obamyopic misogyny. The misogynist fratboys bashed Hillary and cheated her out of the primary (with the Obamabot thugs); then they vilified Gov. Palin. Enough! This Canadian says. And We’re mad as hell and we ain’t gonna take it any more! (just remembered classic line from Network!)
The ability to see what is actually there rather than what one wants to see is what makes the difference between a reasonable person and a simple follower.
Da Doc clearly has that and principles (some of which are opposed to mine) but because they are consistent principles it allows rational discussion and admiration.

Quite kind of you to say. Just because one has solid beliefs it doesn’t mean they can’t look at something critically. Remember the line in the move The Buccaneer:

Yes, indeed! The Truth always will stand up under fire. By the way, that was a great movie; two versions, one b & w cecil de mille-directed and in the 50s with Yul Brynner-Anthony Quin I think. The choice was between going with the “sure” thing–Britain–or fighting like a patriot…excellent. Keep on standing your ground on what you believe to be the Truth, regardless of the dark corners where this may lie…
