…since he passed away in 1987 and lived his entire life denied, at least according to a French court a basic human right:
The Constitutional Council declared access to the internet to be a basic human right, directly opposing the key points of Mr Sarkozy’s law, passed in April, which created the first internet police agency in the democratic world.
Who knew all these years generations of humans were denied a right so basic?
Lets take this to it’s logical end. If the internet is a basic right then of course electricity and plastic and all the components necessary for them must be a basic right too.
This means we (or perhaps the French) must immediately go into the amazon and Africa and build as many power plants as possible to provide people with this basic right. And of course since all this stuff requires plastic we will need more oil by which plastic is created.
You know it seems to me silly season never really ends.

Sure, if you extrapolate the concept to a ridiculous degree, it looks ridiculous.
But then – the finer point is, internet access makes a whole lot of things easier. As this trend continues with government services moving online, you will have people without internet access excluded from an increasing number of conveniences.
Sure, it’s crazy to think that internet access is like the right to free speech – but accepting policies that thoughtlessly exclude those who cannot afford internet access just isn’t right.
Granted, I just think the use of the word “right” for a whole lot of things is overblown.
The internet is a great tool, it’s astounding that my teenage sons have more info at their fingertips than presidents of the US did a mere 30 years ago (actually maybe even 20 years).
But the everything is a right business is dangerous. It in my opinion distracts from actual basic rights, like expression, religion, assembly and the freedom to govern themselves.
If I had one “right” that I think the world should concentrate on it would be providing safe drinking water. There is no one thing that i think would have a greater short term impact on underdeveloped areas than that.
