Apparently according to the appeals courts the 2nd Amendment doesn’t apply to states and municipalities.

A Chicago ordinance banning handguns and automatic weapons within city limits was upheld by a U.S. Court of Appeals panel, which rejected a challenge by the National Rifle Association.

The unanimous three-judge panel ruled today that a U.S. Supreme Court decision last year, which recognized an individual right to bear arms under the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment, didn’t apply to states and municipalities.

I admit I’m not a lawyer but other than federal property that would seem to exclude a huge chunk of the united states.

I wonder if that is true for other amendments? Does the amendment forbidding slavery not apply to the states? Didn’t we fight a civil war over this? How about the first amendment that grants press , religious and speech freedoms?

I guess it’s the Chicago way.

Well its been a few weeks now since everybody told us that Dick Cheney out front was a bad idea, lets see how that’s worked out

Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to closing the detention center for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay and moving some of the detainees to prisons on U.S. soil, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds.

By more than 2-1, those surveyed say Guantanamo shouldn’t be closed. By more than 3-1, they oppose moving some of the accused terrorists housed there to prisons in their own states.

There is only one conclusion to make

Well it was a bit of a wait

But visiting the unemployment office in person got the extension taken care of with a minimum of fuss.

Always bring a book when you know you will have a long wait, and you will be able to deal with it cheerfully.

Lets talk blame

Well it seems to me that we might now ask if we are going to attempt to blame the murder of Mr. Tiller on all those who disagreed with him and protested him, by that standard are we to blame the various anti-war movements for this shooting?

Granted the details are very different but how many years have groups on the left been shouting haditha or Abu Ghraib? Shall we now blame the Maine Cat Woman for this shooting? By her standard we should.

Both those arguments have one thing in common, the attempt to repress protected speech that the other doesn’t like, and both arguments are equally absurd.
