Watching Morning Joe today. They started with Libya and talk was all about arming the rebels and why Libya and not elsewhere. Listening to the discussion I noticed that there was something missing.
I had my doubts whenever Joe Scarborough’s op-ed, would get the play it normally does. Considering that the opening segment is repeated at 8 a.m. you would think that they would make it a point to bring up the hosts op-ed on the subject of the day first. Instead during Mika’s must read op-eds it was mentioned late as they instead talks of the anniversary of the Reagan Assassination attempt, leaving just enough time to give Joe’s piece two minutes
However Joe’s op-ed points to the phoniness of the president’s supporters on Libya, and I don’t think MSNBC wants to overplay that argument.
Speaking of op-eds here is different one from Anne Applebaum via Legal Insurrection that won’t get any play on MSNBC:

Do not expect the MSM to give Anne’s take any play at all.

You know considering how easy this was to debunk by Stacy you would think they would be embarrassed:
Well, to start with, how did this audio become “newly uncovered”? Waaaayy down in his story at Media Matters, Hananoki explains:
Media Matters obtained audio of Sammon’s remarks by purchasing it through Hillsdale College.
Yeah: They sold audio of the speeches made by Sammon and others during this cruise. And so it wasn’t exactly hush-hush. And of course, in context, you see that what Sammon is saying about this “Barack the Socialist” meme is that it was what everybody on Fox was discussing at the time, and he took part in those discussions despite whatever private doubts he might have had about the term.
I can almost hear Joe Pesci saying: “I’m finished with this guy” after reading McCain, but hey Media Matters is paid to to find there there so there going to find there there even if there isn’t much of any. Of course if you aren’t paid to find it, then you’re Charles Johnson.

Let’s see a combat reporter actually embedded with that very unit who has spent the last decade actually at the front lines of the war vs a magazine that specializes in Bieber Fever.

The online edition of the Rolling Stone story contains a section with a video called “Motorcycle Kill,” which includes our Soldiers gunning down Taliban who were speeding on a motorcycle toward our guys. These Soldiers were also with 5/2 SBCT, far away from the “Kill Team” later accused of the murders. Rolling Stone commits a literary “crime” by deceptively entwining this normal combat video with the Kill Team story. The Taliban on the motorcycle were killed during an intense operation in the Arghandab near Kandahar City. People who have been to the Arghandab realize the extreme danger there. The Soviets got beaten horribly in the Arghandab, despite throwing everything including the Soviet kitchen sink into the battle that lasted over a month. Others fared little better. To my knowledge, 5/2 and supporting units were the first ever to take Arghandab, and these two dead Taliban were part of that process.
Yon also points out that the Soldiers who were actually doing wrong “would have fit into a mini-van” while the brigade is thousands of soldiers strong but Rolling Stone tries to make hay of what the Army and had already discovered and acted on.
He suggests a boycott, I suggest that MSNBC who is still trying to make hay of this stuff tries having Michael Yon on. I don’t think I’ll hold my breath waiting for it, their quest for finding the right story to bring the Afghanistan war down is just too important to them.
