…is that THIS was the year that the Colts were going to make their Superbowl run.
Let’s say something bluntly.
Until Tom Brady Goes down with an injury or until he suddenly falls off Max Kellerman’s Cliff nobody is going to the Superbowl in the AFC unless they are able to knock him off that perch.
Now it’s very possible that a Patrick Mahomes could do it, although given the improved Patriots defense it’s not a bet I’d risk a whole lot of money on
But if you think that Andrew Luck was going to be able to do it this year, that’s just crazy.
Not QUITE as crazy as the take I was hearing that Luck is more talented than Brady and the proof is that he was taken 1st over all vs 199th, but unlike the “Luck is better” argument it’s one I’ve heard every day since his retirement
Yesterday I talked about the reasons why the GOP should be happy to ignore Democrat Pleas to wait on replacing Ginsberg, now here are a couple of reasons why the Democrats might wint Trump to replace Ginsberg NOW!
Reason one Murkowski and Collins
Right now the GOP has only a single seat majority in the Senate and the key swing votes are Murkowski and Collins. Of all the senators in the caucus they are the most likely to force President Trump into a more moderate choice for SCOTUS.
If Donald Trump wins (likely) and has coattails (likely) the Democrats are apt to find themselves in a position where the votes of Murkowski and Collins (if she survives) are not needed to get a conservative judge across the line, particularity since Alabama is unlikely to stay Democrat and Manchin is very likely to vote his state rather than his party. If that is the case you might see a Justice that makes Antonin Scalia look like Earl Warren.
Reason Two Turnout
Since the best chance for Democrats to win in 2020 is to further motivate potential Democrat voters. Nothing would do so more than a successful replacement of Justice Ginsberg with a conservative, particularly as a club to use against GOP senators in states like ME and COL
Given that the primary reason for Democrat power IS power the short term gain from such an event is likely to pay high dividends at a time when they need such a thing to counter the Trump economy.
Reason Three Breaking the cycle of dependence
One of the reasons why the Democrat party has pretty much become an urban regional party has been their reliance on the courts. Namely why bother to try to win over the people when you can count on the courts to legislate your agenda for you.
If Ginsberg is replaced by a solid conservative now it will finally force the Democrat party to do what it needs to do to survive long term, actually connect with voters and serve their needs. The president’s inroads with minority voters demonstrates the dangers of relying on a race based coalition and of course any splits in the various groups (see the Tom Hagen Math posts) are likely to isolate the party even more.
The party can’t wean itself out of it’s dependence on the courts and re-connect with the actual votes until that break is complete. A Trump appointment would do that.
Of course this point assumes party leaders care about the future and when your party is about narcissism and not having children that’s a rather big assumption isn’t it?

It’s really quite simple. California’s intent is to create a serf class and to enlarge it.

This is particularly critical in lower-income communities, such as the East Bay, central Orange County and Los Angeles, where the state’s public schools have consistently failed and where some charters have made considerable strides through reforms and innovations.
But nothing has been more illustrative of the political agenda of our educational establishment than the recent draft curriculum for an “ethnic studies” course for the state’s schools. Although this curriculum has created a firestorm of opposition and is unlikely to be adopted as is, the fact is the curriculum reflected a far-left agenda that is deeply entrenched in the educational establishment.
The scariest thing about the ethnic studies curriculum may not be its ultimate content but how it reflects an ideology that advocates indoctrination of youngsters who often don’t even have the most basic understanding of sociology or history.
Often incapable of meeting basic grade-level English language and mathematics standards, these students would be forced to learn academic jargon like misogynoir, cisheteropatriarchy and hxrstory. (…)
California’s 8th graders, on average, have fallen well behind the rest of the country in science, mathematics and reading scores — including even demographically similar states such as Texas and New York. Almost three of five California high schoolers are not prepared for either college or a career; the percentages are far higher for Latinos, African American and the economically disadvantaged.
Serfs don’t need real education, of course.
Many want to know how formerly conservative California reached this abyss. There are several prongs and the descent in the quality of education is only one of the factors.
People have been trying to get me to document the other factors in the Third-World-ization of my home state. So, I’m going to take a shot at it. It will take a few days – perhaps a week – to gather the research and put it in coherent form.
