One of the true hallmarks of elitists on the political left is a manifest desire to control all aspects of the lives of those they consider to be the common folk.  They do not believe that the “great unwashed masses” are capable of deciding for themselves.  Unfortunately elitist leftists now make up a very large segment of the Democrat Party, academia, and the media.

For many decades these leftists here in the United States have been attempting to gain control of all aspects of life here.  During the Wilson, FDR, and Obama administrations they came close to gaining control.

Emergencies, whether spontaneously occurring or man made,  have always been seen by the left as handy tools to seize control.  President Obama’s Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel infamously stated “Never let a crisis go to waste.”   Rahm was not the first to utter those sentiments.  Leftists have been living by them for centuries.  Thomas Jefferson and a few other founding fathers warned about tyrannical governments using emergencies to strip rights and liberties away from individuals.  They warned that once this process has begun it is extremely difficult to stop and nearly impossibly to reverse.

F A Hayek, who wrote the Road to Serfdom, warned us about the dangers of letting governments use emergencies strip the liberty away from individuals when he wrote this in Law, Legislation and Liberty volume 3

Emergencies’ have always been the pretext on which the safeguards of individual liberty have been eroded — and once they are suspended it is not difficult for anyone who has assumed such emergency powers to see to it that the emergency persist.

Ever since the Coronavirus pandemic began leftists worldwide and here in the United States have imposed lockdowns, mask mandates, and vaccine mandates on their populations.  All of these measures destroy the individual liberty of everyone who is affected by them.  Far too few individuals have stood up against these liberty destroying measures.  This is especially true here in the United States, which is quite shocking to me because individual liberty is at the very foundation the United States.

Here in the United States we have enjoyed a brief respite from these odious liberty destroying restrictions because the number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths from the Coronavirus dropped and remained remarkably low for a couple of months.

Thanks to a wave new cases cause by the scary sounding Delta Variant Democrat controlled cities, counties, and one state so far have begun again mask mandates and lockdowns despite far less hospitalizations and deaths from this variant.   If you dispute this claim check out this article, and this article, and this article.

If we do not stop this now there will be a never ending cycle of lockdowns and mandates.  We will never get back to truly normal life.   We have to stop complying with these mandates. Our compliance is what is keeping them going.  We have to organize mass protests and mass civil disobedience immediately or we will never see the end of this nightmare.

Elizabeth Spiers at the New York times has written a long essay on Cuomo. She uses 917 words to answer the question that she asks in title:

How Cuomo Got Away With It for So Long

This is a real poser to Ms. Spiers who opines on the subject thus:

Perversely, his abrasiveness may have given him a sort of immunity to consequences until now, at least when it comes to his public image. Any time he exhibits terrible interpersonal behavior, it can be regarded as an intrinsic part of his personality. He’s established a reputation as a jerk who treats people badly, so people shrug when he proves, yet again, that he is a jerk who treats people badly. His behavior is normalized because it seems normal for Andrew Cuomo.

If all of this verbiage sounds familiar it might not be a surprise because you’re read something like it before about

In her experience with the office of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Italian model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez met a justice system that rarely takes up complaints like the one she put forward in 2015 against Weinstein. Her experience in going to the police with a complaint that she was sexually assaulted and then having her case stall is more the rule than the exception.

With a title that sounds rather familar:

How Harvey Weinstein got away with it for so long

And of course the mystery continues with Matt Lauer:

“He’s angry about what he sees as the media’s unfair treatment of him, and hasn’t been taking things well,” said the source. “He had done a lot of work to repair his relationships with his kids and they’ve been sticking by him.”

“He went from being the biggest deal and being able to do whatever he wanted to being an outcast and it’s been a bitter pill to swallow,” the source continued.

Apparently none of these writers had a clue how they got away with it for so long but the clue to the answer is in the sentence below Ms. Spiers byline:

Ms. Spiers has worked in New York media since the early 2000s.

Now while this is a mystery to these New York Liberals it’s something that the rest of us already know.

He got away with for so long for the same reason that Weinstein, and Lauer, and Clinton and Epstein did because he is a Liberal Democrat who has supported the liberal democrat cause and those who knew what was going on, and I’m sure like Weinstein et all there were plenty in politics, in media, in entertainment and in government, considered him useful a source of money or power and influence and both

At best a lot of folks on the left are in denial at the moment worst they are covering themselves with phony displays of shock and disbelief.

Now I don’t know Ms. Spiers, it’s possible that she knew all about Cuomo and Weinstein, and Lauer and others it’s possible that she heard rumors and ignored them and it’s even possible that she knew absolutely nothing Cuomo and all the there. I have no idea one way or the other, but there is one thing I do know.

I know that sooner or later another prominent Democrat pol, or operative or donor who has spent years doing exactly what Cuomo was doing will suddenly no longer be useful to the party and when that time comes we will see another opinion piece by another New York Liberal titled: How did they get away with it for so long.

Unexpectedly of course.

Does Anyone Seriously Think Cuomo Will Resign?

Posted: August 4, 2021 by datechguy in Uncategorized

I don’t.

Given what we’ve seen out of Virginia and elsewhere why would anyone think for a moment that Cuomo is going anywhere? He’s seen that Democrats can brazen out anything, and that reality doesn’t matter.

As for the MeToo angle, why don’t you ask Tara Reade if Cuomo is going anywhere.

And seriously what is Cuomo’s incentive to resign, what does he get out of it?

It would be nice to be wrong but I think Cuomo is staying right where he is until his term is done.

Olympic overload

For years, like many other Americans, I enjoyed the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat at the Olympics.

This year, like many other Americans, I have made it a point NOT to watch any of the Olympics.

Although politics has played a role in many Olympics, particularly the Cold War competition between the United States and the Soviet Union, the antics of this year’s athletes have been over the top.

At its opening match with Sweden, the U.S. women’s soccer team knelt in protest. Not only was I happy the team lost to Sweden but ultimately got knocked off its perch by losing to Canada. I hope Subway passes on Megan Rapinoe in its next round of commercials.

American shot-putter Raven Saunders stepped off the podium during the medal ceremony, lifted her arms above her head, and formed an “X’ with her wrists.

“It’s the intersection of where all people who are oppressed meet,” she said when asked what her protest meant. It’s a rather mediocre protest when you have to explain the meaning!

Moments after Saunders’s protest, American fencer Race Imboden had a circled “X” written on his hand as he went to the podium at a different venue after the U.S. men’s foil team earned a bronze medal. That protest came after his teammates wore pink masks to embarrass a colleague accused of sexual harassment. The teammate hasn’t been formally charged and was cleared by authorities to compete in the Olympics.

I guess the notion of innocent until proven guilty doesn’t have any meaning when you’re planning protests!

I marvel at the abilities of athletes and how they do something few can. I couldn’t care less about what they think about the state of the world unless they have some overarching knowledge of international and national events.

These political statements turn me off, and it’s readily apparent that others think the same as I do. People aren’t tuning out because of time differences and multiple delivery platforms. People are turning out because Olympians should be proud to represent the United States—not preach to others about political matters they know little about.

I hope that Olympic ruling body stands by its intention to punish those who protest. But that’s likely to generate yet another protest. It’s best to convince NBC, which is likely to lose a lot of money from the poor viewership, that few people really care about the Olympics, particularly because of the growing number of protests.
