As a person who owned a comic book store in the 1980’s this tweet (via Citizen Free Press) jumped out at me:
The reason is this was a tactic used by parents crusading against comic books in the 1950 which was highly effective in causing Supermarkets to stop carrying comic books until the formation of the Comic Code authority which was the primary censor of comics till the early 21st century.
Once you get retailers being hit in the pocketbook it is amazing how quickly their opinions on an issue change
