Five Quick Sports Thoughts Under the Fedora

Posted: August 12, 2022 by datechguy in Uncategorized

The NBA has permanently retired Bill Russell’s number for all teams on the occasion of his death. It seems odd to me that they did not do this during his lifetime.

For some reason nobody seems to consider him the best of all time but me. For those who insist on LeBron or Jordan or even Kareem (who also belongs in this conversation) over the man who won 11 titles in 13 years let me say it again: When one of them manages to win a title while being a player coach as he did twice, then talk to me about how they’re in his league.

Chris Sale of the Red Sox has managed to put himself out for the season due to, of all things a bicycle accident.

The Sox have been doing a great job of self destructing anyways but I’ve never seen a player and a team so snakebit.

Some are bitching about his contract but let me put it this way. He was one of the prime reasons we won a title in 2018 and if you told a Sox fan in 1998 that signing a guy for five years would get you a title we would have all jumped at it in a second.

Bill Belichick is now 35 wins away from Don Shula’s record of wins by a NFL coach. Given what we’ve seen from the Patriots I’d say he will need at least 5 more years to get the record. I suspect that if they had kept Brady he would likely be less that 30 wins or maybe even as close as 25.

People who have seen this team in practice do not seem optimistic. Given how much other teams in the conference have improved over the last year I don’t blame them.

Being this close I can’t see him stopping until the record is in his hands.

The Bruins have been signing a lot of players for one more run with the current gang.

They have a team that is good enough to contend, the question is are they good enough to go all the way. My thought is if you have that chance go for it.

We’ve been spoiled a lot lately so we forget that championships are actually a rate thing.

Finally in my online league I have decided to take my own advice and traded away a 1st & 5th round pick along with OF Pat Kelly an above avg hitter with great range and good speed for Frank Howard who has maybe one more good year left in him.

Howard has made everyone in the lineup better and despite injuries and suspensions I’m right in the thick of the hunt, which given that our league is designed to make it hard to repeat isn’t bad at all.

Let’s hope I’m still this optimistic when we have 50 games left to the season instead of 100

The mood struck me to do a spontaneous podcast.

I talk Trump, How the left is trying to intimidate us and a story of a black immigrant woman that is bad news for the left

You can watch it here

Eventually all of this will be on Rumble but till all my youtube videos are moved we’ll still be there.

The degree of shock at the Raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago confuses me. Once you have people willing to destroy the norms on stealing an election what makes you think they’re going to respect any other norms?

You know I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again, Donald Trump must be one of the cleanest businessmen who ever ran a business and one of the most honest pols who ever held office.

With the degree of scrutiny given to him and the enthusiastic desire to find something ANYTHING criminal about him from both the government and the press the fact that over six years they have come up with nothing solidifies this opinion.

The funny thing of course is that people likely would not have had that opinion before he ran.

There is one other aspect of what was done that should be addressed. One of the reasons people were shocked is how “in your face” this actually is.

That’s deliberate, they WANT people to understand that they will come after you and you can’t do anything about it, they want you to know who is in charge, who is the master and who is the slave.

It’s meant to be psychological terrorism.

There are a few people who are shocked at how few leftists are speaking out against this. I’m not shocked for three reasons:

  1. The violent wing of the left is still ready to go after anyone who speaks out of turn and particularly anyone they consider “traitors”
  2. The left didn’t see the possibility of Harry Reid’s filibuster reform being used against them, why would they see the consequences for them here?
  3. In a party that is post Christian, ends and means are what matters , why would you expect a moral stand?

Finally we talked about how clean Trump must be now let’s look at the other side of the coin.

For decades Republicans and Democrats have traded power, each side has been in charge for a while then the other. Other than that long run from the 50’s to the 80’s when the dems owned the house the back and forth was normal and both sides understood that sooner or later the pendulum swings back.

The sheer panic on the left concerning a 2nd Trump term suggest to me something different.

Could it be that the left is even more corrupt than we think? Could it be that the stuff that they’ve been doing, enabling and coordinating is even more horrific than that worst conspiracy theorists have imagined? Could it be that the Epstein’s of the world are the norm for the left and not the exception and that they’ve only caught the one?

That would explain the left’s Trump panic. Not being part of the normal system won’t turn a blind eye to things that have been done in the past and continue to be done, more than that he would be motivated to expose what the left has done for decades simply out of revenge over what’s been done to him without cause.

This is simply a theory, I don’t know if that’s true, but it certainly fits the current facts on the ground.

Is the Raid on Trump’s Home the type of thing you get from a legitimately elected government? Would a legitimately elected government?

If Trump had done thing to Hillary the Press would have gone ballistic.

I think the Legal Insurrection Crowd has it nailed:

This is a provocation. They are trying to get a reaction that allows a further crackdown. See, In Re J6. It’s also a provocation to get Trump to declare his candidacy for President before the midterms.

Democrats would love to turn 2022 into a referendum on Trump rather than the deliberate destruction of the national borders and inflation.

Would the FBI and DOJ do such a thing? Aren’t they “above” politics? The then FBI Director James Comey admitted to trying to set up the new President Trump by alerting him to the Steele Dossier, and then leaked the story of the briefing to CNN, which gave license to report on the false allegations in the dossier. So yes, the FBI and DOJ would do such a thing, and have done such a thing to Trump. All the more reason to keep your heads about you.

Don’t take the bait. Being stupid isn’t tough, it’s just stupid.

There was a time when I would not have thought this kind of thing possible from even the most crazy Democrat. That time is long past.

Does the left really expect this not to come back and haunt them.

Closing thought: I would hate to be a 20 year vet of the FBI seeing this kind of thing and wondering what happened to this agency.
