I like the folks at Powerline who have been blogging as long or longer than I have but in their review of the gun control “deal” there are some questions so obvious that I find it incredible that they are not asking them:

Investment in Children and Family Mental Health Services

What does this actually mean? Does it mean what it usually does basically a slush fund for various liberal NGO’s and funding activists? Does “Drag Queen Story Hour” qualify as such an investment?

Under 21 Enhanced Review Process

Will such a review be simply a check of juvenile court records or will it be something more? Will it check to see if an under 18, say , tweeted something against Gay Marriage? Objected to multiple pronouns? Insisted there were only two genders? Why would you think the left would not use these as part of such a review process?

Intervention Orders

Why does Powerline think the “more libs on the public payroll” which is the phrasing they use will not use this for interventions again as above? Why do they think these same libs are letting people go based on Race and have held the J6 defendants for over a year and are using political prosecutions against political foes will use this honesty?

Funding for School Safety Resources

What does this actually mean? Who determines what these resources are and how they provide safety? Given that the left’s pols can’t define “man” or “woman” how can we trust them to define “school safety recourse” in such a way as to fund their agenda or determine that any type of conservative thought, expression or action is “unsafe”?

And last but not least:

” it could have been a lot worse. ” (emphasis mine)

Seriously? During a year when the dishonest and dishonorable left are running for the hills is our standard for passing a hodgepodge of “gimmes” for the left that “it could have been a lot worse?” Are we really going to pass regulations that are going to be expanded and amended over the year in order to weaponize these rules against conservatives? Why are we going to trust these people who won’t condemn or even talk about the attempted murder of a Conservative SCOTUS to apply these rules fairly? And if you choose to argue that the Democrats who are negotiating this deal are not the crazies, why do you think that these folks who are too cowardly to stand up to their crazies now will do so when the chips are down?

If you want to know how we should deal with the left’s demands on gun control we should give them the same answer that Michael Corleone gave to the Senator trying to shake him down.

Until we see actual evidence of good faith from Democrats give them nothing. ignore their proposals, their demands. I’ll give the last work to Kurt:

The left can only impose its will when it convinces us to choose to let them do so. They have to make us care. Look at them. They are a gaggle of mutated misfits, neurotic chicks, academic parasites, grievance hustlers, and femmy doofuses who can’t do a push-up. They can force nothing on us. That’s why they attempt to enlist the power of the state to do it for them, but their real power comes from us going along

Update: Ok I know this is going up at the same time as the base post but I added it after it was ready to be scheduled and it perfectly illustrates why we don’t need to give them a thing:

A passerby saw a man “aggressively” trying to get into the school building. When the man was unsuccessful, he tried several other doors, all of which were locked. The responsible observer called to report the man, the school principal put the building on lockdown and called in a police officer who doubles as the school resource officer, and that officer called for backup. If the reports are correct, the chain of command worked smoothly thanks to decisive action and quickly followed protocols.

The resource officer reportedly engaged the would-be invader, who then also allegedly attempted to forcefully enter a marked police vehicle and to take the officer’s gun. More police officers rushed to the scene to help, and the assailant was shot and killed. According to the city’s school superintendent, the schoolchildren who were there “seemed to be unaware the incident occurred.”

In other words, a man who “aggressively” tried to break into a school and take the firearm of a police officer was stopped because doors were properly locked and police officers acted bravely and urgently.

We know how to stop these guys but that’s not the goal of the left, it never has been.

Nothing says: “I care more about what people think of me than the people I supposedly take care of.” like a priest encouraging someone in mortal sin to receive communion.

Justin Bieber talked about Ramsey Hunt Syndrome. I had it once a few years ago. I had just left the doctors and gone to lunch when suddenly I was having trouble drinking from my straw. My wife came out the bathroom, took one look at me and rushed me back to the doctor who sent me to Worcester. It really stinks and it took weeks for me to be back to my normal self. I wish him luck.

When I see the left go nuts on the Jan 6th committee and not say a word about the attempted Assassination of Justice Kavanaugh all I can think of is the renegade Englishman on the French Prize ship in the book Commodore Hornblower in a dead panic as the British longboat is about to board her ignoring his false warnings of Smallpox. The left is in a dead panic over what is coming and can’t deal. They are going to get a lot more violent before they implode. It will not be pretty.

This story at Instapundit about Boston about to go full “Defund the Police” really worries me. One of the real accomplishments of the Baker administration has been to prevent the insanity that has turned California unlivable from migrating here. There has already been a short term migration to places like my city as people run from Boston. If they go the whole hog then I really will be able to get 2 mil for my house because people will be desperate to escape. Glad I saw the Sox earlier this month because if this goes through I won’t be going back.

Seriously “Sudden Adult Death Syndrome” SADS? A disease that we never saw before the Vaccine? Why not be honest and call it “Vaccine Suddenly Kills you” VSKY” and be done with it. The degree that people are willing to lie to themselves to avoid the obvious when it’s uncomfortable never ceases to amaze me.

Was part of an interested twitter exchange that will make a better post than what I was going to write:

It started with my reply to a Mollie Hemmingway tweet:

A fellow (or lady) by the name of Still following took umbridge at my suggestion that the left would consider the murder of a justice who opposed them a good thing:

I’ll give him/her/it full marks for suggesting that the protests (which are illegal under federal law) are wrong but his attempt to pivot to “republicans support the murder of citizens is so weak and such a standard response by the left that it’s almost not worth fisking, but I had the time…

I then started to note this piece at powerline rather than the tweets quoting the piece let’s just quote it directly:

What do the Democrats think about attempted assassinations of Supreme Court justices? To my knowledge, neither Schumer nor Joe Biden’s handlers have commented. I surmise that the Democrats are hoping for one or more assassinations to take place before Biden is hustled out of the White House, so that his handlers can appoint a successor.

The attempt on Kavanaugh’s life has only emboldened the Democrats’ efforts to intimidate conservative justices. Thus, the dark money group called “Ruth Sent Us,” which has been behind much of the publication of justices’ home addresses and threats against their families, is calling for action against Justice Amy Barrett:

why not double down if there is no push back:

Barrett attends church “DAILY”? The horror!

What I would like to know is, who funds “Ruth Sent Us”? I hazard a wild guess that it is not some fringe group, but rather mainstream Democratic Party donors like, say, George Soros. I think the campaign to expose conservative Supreme Court justices and their families to the risk of assassination is not “extremist,” but rather has been orchestrated by the leaders of the Democratic Party–Joe Biden’s handlers, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, and so on. And I think they hope that one or more assassins will succeed so that Biden’s handlers will be able to nominate one or more justices.

Let me remind you that this is the opinion of John Hinderacker. A lawyer who has a long steady record and not someone who just shoots his mouth off: He continues:

Does this speculation seem beyond the pale? Once, I would have thought so. But, apart from open advocacy of assassination by Democrats as in the tweet above, Democratic leaders haven’t done anything to rebut it.

And I can’t think of an alternative explanation of why Merrick Garland and other Democratic Party authorities have failed to enforce laws against demonstrating outside judges’ homes. I can’t think of another explanation of why leaders of the Democratic Party can’t bestir themselves to condemn an assassination attempt. I can’t think of another explanation for why the Washington Post buried news of the attempted murder of Justice Kavanaugh deep in their “local news” section.

The “local news” bit is of course in line with DaTechGuy’s 3rd law of Media Outrage but the Merrick Garland business reminds me of how lucky we were not to have this evil asshole on the court. My apologies for the language but I can’t think of something worse description to use that is printable. He concludes:

Nor can I think of another explanation of why leaders of the Democratic Party haven’t called off “Ruth Sent Us” in the wake of the Kavanaugh assassination attempt. Could they do so? I am pretty sure they could. But let’s find out! Who, exactly, is financing “Ruth Sent Us”? How do those people (or maybe just one person) relate to assassination-inciter Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party generally?

Inquiring minds want to know. The effort to intimidate or, better yet, assassinate Supreme Court justices didn’t begin with marginal characters like Nicholas Roske, just like the idea of assassinating the House Republican baseball team didn’t originate with James Hodgkinson. The leaders of the Democratic Party are in the dock. Can they defend themselves?

So far, they haven’t even tried.

In fairness even if they wanted to speak I believe that there are two factors here preventing them:

  1. The people who are funding these guys have things on the left to shut them up
  2. They are afraid of they murderous loonies on their side because unlike us on the right they know they’re willing to kill

But there is one more reason while the argument of Still Following fails and this is it:

Nobody is claiming that the Uvalde shooter murdered those kids in protest over gun control o the fellow who shot up his surgeon did so because he objected to limits on magazine sizes or that the gang bangers in Chicago, Baltimore or Philadelphia are basically having a “national day of gunning down people in support of Heller”. For his argument to have the slightest bit of rationality that would have to be true.

But that’s the left for you. it’s all about the narrative and the political goals.
