It’s not MS it’s Money!

I was looking at the Reclusive Leftist’s site and saw her shock at the cover of MS Magazine.

She was practically speechless, but other of her readers had more to say:

I have to say that if President-Elect is Ms. Magazine’s idea of what a feminist looks like, I would hate to see their vision of what an anti-feminist looks like.

Peacock and Lilies has the best and correct line:

UPDATE: Wholly shit, Batman! They are selling the poster separately, for, get this, $19.95! They’re calling it a feminist collector’s item.

Apparently this is what prostitution looks like.

She also examines the relevance of the image in comics and the fact that the image itself is an American icon. It is interesting reading.

She is exactly right. It is prostitution, you can’t go anywhere without seeing Obama Messiah stuff for sale. Ms. Magazine is just trying to cash in by jumping on the bandwagon.

As a practicing Roman Catholic Man who maintains Abortion an intrinsic evil (particularly when used selectively to prevent the birth of girls in the 3rd world and in India and China. ) I would not likely be considered anything remotely feminist by the blogs above.

However with them I thought the treatment of Hillary Clinton at best bordered on misogyny. The treatment of Palin was even worse. I was shocked to hear a 15 year old girl scream at me because Palin’s daughter was pregnant at a NH rally. Not feminism’s greatest moment. Media of all types have prostituted themselves to near cult status when it comes to the president elect. This is likely not going to change.

These blogs have every reason to be suspicious of the incoming administration and it wouldn’t surprise me to see those suspicions confirmed. I suspect they will not be the only ones on the left in that spot. We of the right aren’t expecting much so we will be less disappointed.

Update: I’ll wager that National Review and them are not on the same page too often either.

Another Gene Robinson vs Rick Warren thought

It just hit me.

Until 2008 a pastor like Rick Warren would never have been considered a controversial choice to be at any inaugural event. His inclusion wouldn’t have caused an eye to bat once.

Until 2008 a Bishop like Gene Robinson would have been impossible to include in any inaugural event without a massive uproar that would have been politically untenable.

This says how much the country in general and the media & Democratic party in particular has changed.

What you believe will determine if you think this is a good or bad change.

No pander here

You might recall the fuss and a half over Rick Warren at the inaugural.

Well looks like its payback time as Gene Robinson has been chosen for another event:

The selection of New Hampshire Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson for Sunday’s event follows weeks of criticism from gay-rights groups over Obama’s decision to have the Rev. Rick Warren give the invocation at his Jan. 20 inauguration.

Warren backed the ban on same-sex marriage that passed in his home state of California on the November ballot.

Robinson said last month the choice of Warren was like a slap in the face. In an interview with the Concord Monitor, he said he doesn’t believe Obama invited him in response to the Warren criticism but said his inclusion won’t go unnoticed by the gay and lesbian community.

Of course he wasn’t invited for that reason. I don’t think the Christian Right should be upset about this, after all he is a Christian Bishop and the difference is only orientation isn’t it? Isn’t it?

Robinson said he doesn’t yet know what he’ll say, but he knows he won’t use a Bible.

“While that is a holy and sacred text to me, it is not for many Americans,” Robinson said. “I will be careful not to be especially Christian in my prayer.

Well that’s reassuring the Episcopal church sure choose a winner. We can’t be using those nasty biblical quotes. Of course that doesn’t apply to me: Matthew 10:32-33

Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.

Or maybe Luke 9:26

Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

Or maybe 2 Timothy 2:12

if we persevere we shall also reign with him. But if we deny him he will deny us.

Yup that’s one first rate secular Christian Bishop the Episcopal church has.

In the end though it’s Obama’s party and he can invite who he wants. That’s the spoils of victory. I don’t think its worth a fuss.

An expensive but incredible advantage

In the book Ship of the Line C.S. Forester’s Hornblower has this thought:

As part of the programme for training his men into fighting machine it would be invaluable to give them firing practice while actually under fire from the enemy—no one knew better than Hornblower the difference between being fired at and not being fired at. He found himself in the act of thinking that one or two unimportant casualties might be worth receiving in these circumstances as part of the crew’s necessary experience

When you look at the US Army and those who say it is wounded and battered there is one thing that is completely overlooked. As of today the Department of Defense has confirmed 4858 deaths in the 7 years of war in Iraq and Afghanistan. That is about 700 a year or just over 2 a day. In terms of war that’s pretty low.

To give you an idea at Cold Harbor the US army lost 1700 men dead in 15 minutes on one day. Or a better example in Korea with 480,000 Americans engaged we lost 36,000 men dead in 3 years.

The end result for the Army? We now have an army with solid fighting experience. Urban warfare, insurgent warfare, desert warfare, in mountain warfare etc etc etc. We have a huge core of troops who have preformed under fire magnificently. That experience and esprit can’t be purchased. I pity any enemy who has to face they men and women. They will be outclassed. No army on the planet can compare to this.

In addition these men and women will be the teachers of our children who will serve, hopefully in peacetime. It is their experience that will not only make them better soldiers but will help keep them alive. Our foes will think twice before facing them and us. This will save many thousands of lives and will likely preempt actions against us and our friends saving tens of thousands.

That result will be the finest tribute to the fallen that can be made.
