My review of the Big Finish adventure Doctor Who adventure number #70 Unregenerate featuring Sylvester McCoy as the 7th doctor and Bonnie Langford as Melaine Bush is available at Amazon.com here.

This is an excellent example of a so so story being made pretty good by a cast that knows what they are doing.

Another odd thing about the 7th Doctor Mel adventures are the timelines, in most of the Big Finish adventures the come in sequence in the sense that the big finish adventures with the same companion follow each other sequentially. For whatever reason the Mel adventures with the 7th doctor don’t follow that rule (check out Wikipedia for the sequencing.)

I have absolutely no explanation for that and it’s not all that important but it is interesting.

Be careful what you pray for

Today my pastor wasn’t available so I needed to go to another church for confession.

Lucky for me the wife had some shopping to do near a church this afternoon so I went with her; dropping her off as Marshalls and went down the road to St. Leo’s figuring I could pick her up when done. I was worried as they tend to have a line but as it turned out an extra priest was on so I was in and out of fairly quickly.

After saying my penance prayers in the church I headed down to the road happy that my wife wouldn’t have to wait for me but thinking the penance I was given seemed small.

When I got to the department store the wife was still having trouble deciding what to get in terms of a gift sweater. Once I was there she had me going back and forth with her looking through woman’s sweaters, every one I suggested didn’t make the cut, wrong materials, wrong style, wrong cleaning instructions etc, etc etc…

I learned two important things today:

God has an excellent sense of humor

When God wants to show you mercy, take it, don’t question it!

Here endth the lesson!

I mean the jokes just write themselves don’t they:

Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus’ office confirmed late Friday night that the Montana Democrat was carrying on an affair with his state office director, Melodee Hanes, when he nominated her to be U.S. attorney in Montana.

According to a source familiar with their relationship, Hanes and Baucus began their relationship in the summer of 2008 – nearly a year before Baucus and his wife, Wanda, divorced in April 2009. The Senator had informally separated from his wife in March 2008 and they were living apart when he began dating Hanes, according to Baucus’ office.

I wonder if this is going to be used to pressure him one way or the other on the healthcare bill…

…Actually I don’t wonder at all.

All you need is an attractive photo of same and we could have saved this for Rule 5 tomorrow.

Update: Legal Insurrection raises an interesting point:

Baucus opposes Democrats on health care. Cub reporter breaks the story embarrassing Baucus. Someone connected to the White House or Democratic leadership drop a dime? Or mere coincidence?

Hey Max, do you believe in coincidence?

His statement on tactics is quite correct, but is frankly irrelevant.

I’m not a big fan about whining about the timing of a revelation of corruption, if one acted ethically then it isn’t a problem. To complain about the timing of this stuff is to my mind no different than Then Barbara Boxer about e-mail theft because of the climategate scandal.

It’s like the stupid laws about accepting dinners. An honest man is not going to sell his vote for dinner and a dishonest man is not going to be stopped by such a law, he will find a way around it.

Update 2: Robert Stacy links to me and Instapundit links to him however as people are for reasons unknown bothering to have a life today I haven’t seen any kind of increase in traffic. However for those who are counting that makes instalance number 12 for The Other McCain since the last one that LGF enjoyed.

That is a rate of one a week. A higher regular rate than Charles enjoyed in his day.

Alas how the mighty has fallen!

My review of the Sherlock Holmes: The Scarlet Claw, the 8th in the series of 14 movies featuring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce in the title roles is at Amazon.com here.

The entire series is great and worth review, I actually have no idea why I started with this one.

Because the DVD’s are kinda pricey you might want to get them via NetFlix as I have, but no matter how you slice it they are first rate, particularly this once which seems more dramatic than many others in the series. There are particular scenes that I considered pretty serious for 1944.

On a totally unrelated matter Big Finish is now doing a Sherlock Holmes audio series. The first one: Sherlock Holmes and the last act has just been released.

I have no plans of getting them myself but if you are a Holmes fan you might enjoy them.
