As you know we go long on the dangers of radical Islam on this blog. It’s a serious threat that we ignore at our peril.

That being said it is just as important to note positive signs and this certainly qualifies

After a New Year’s Eve attack against Coptic Christian Churches in Egypt, there was some concern that this week’s celebration of Christmas by Egypt’s oldest Christian community (which follows the same calender as the Orthodox Church) would lead to more attacks. Which is why many Egyptian Muslims decided to show up at Coptic Churches last night

And why did they show up? To keep their word and to show unity:

Egypt’s majority Muslim population stuck to its word Thursday night. What had been a promise of solidarity to the weary Coptic community, was honoured, when thousands of Muslims showed up at Coptic Christmas eve mass services in churches around the country and at candle light vigils held outside.

From the well-known to the unknown, Muslims had offered their bodies as “human shields” for last night’s mass, making a pledge to collectively fight the threat of Islamic militants and towards an Egypt free from sectarian strife.

And unlike the “shields” of the left who show up when there is little danger (such as those trying to protect Saddam) these people actually put their lives on the line since Al Qaeda has shown no compunction when it comes to killing their fellow Muslims in the past. This is true courage and should be applauded.

The importance of this can’t be overestimated as Jawa reports explains:

Remember the Coptic Christians suffer, but the group who suffers the most from al-Qaeda’s murderous acts are Muslims. So the Copts and the Muslims both risk death by disagreeing with al-Qaeda.

Exactly right. It seems to me that a lot of people are being played by Al-Qaeda in the same way. When you see story after story like this it is a wonderful thing to see signs of hope. May there be more.

The most cheerful post of the day Update: Two we’ve got two!

This post yesterday over at the Other McCain seems unremarkable, a simple statement against the fed but the start of the post was special:

by Smitty

It’s good to see that #1 Smitty is ok, and #2 He’s still got it.

Stay well Smitty, hope to see you home soon.

Update: a toofer!

Simply put, Peggy, you know jack-all about Jones, Halsey, Zumwalt, leadership, the military, and what we should do in the case of Honors. He’s a great litmus test; anyone in an authority position who things that cashiering him was a good idea should, instead, be cashiered.
Salon, in a takes-a-clown-to-know-one moment, pegged you so beautifully:

Her recurring theme is a return to the innocence and purity of the past. Specifically the “Mad Men” era, or just before it. She allows herself Camelot-worship (as Reagan did), but it’s Eisenhower she pines for.

Peggy, just stick to writing about Reagan, please.

That’s gotta smart.

Kill your children lose your seats

Remember those two seats NY lost in redistricting, maybe this has something to do with it:

“If 41% of New York babies are aborted, with the percentage even higher in the Bronx and among our African-American babies in the world, it is downright chilling,” New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan said.

Broken down by race for 2009:

Specifically non-Hispanic Black’s have a 59.8% abortion rate.

Hispanics have a 41.3% abortion rate.

Asians have a 22.7% abortion rate.

And non-Hispanic Whites have a 20.4% abortion rate.

As I’ve said before, voting the dead is a time-honored tradition among democrats, but you can’t vote the dead if they are never born.

The article had this sentence that will simply make people like Jill Stanek and Casey Fiano’s head spin:

Planned Parenthood is also not happy about the numbers

The answer to that extraordinary sentence has two components: The first is a male bovine and the second can be represented by the answer to the equation 7 minus 5.

…in this post about the actual fear of democrats concerning an obamacare repeal:

The liberals, who could barely pass ObamaCare with a 78-seat margin in the House and a 20-seat margin in the Senate, as well as a socialist in the White House, do not want us repealing that. They may never see majorities like that again, and they will never, ever have the support of the electorate for nationalizing health care again – not if we repeal and replace, not when Europe collapses and Canadians keep fleeing here for health care. 2010 was their very last chance to get it through, and if we kick it out now, the socialist wet dream is gone.

The Democrats handed us a weapon when they ensured that benefits would not kick in until 2014 (the purpose of which was to ensure that this “budget-neutral, deficit-reducing” programme would have ten years of revenue and six years of expenditures). We do not have the same reliance problems with ObamaCare as we do with Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, SCHIP, and welfare. As Mark Steyn keeps hammering away on, once these things are in, they are never coming out. That’s why conservatives need to get this out now – now, before the private insurance market is completely dead; now, before the liberals can scream too much about people whose only source of medical care is the federal government; now, before the bureaucrats are in place. To analogize: if you are on the side of cancer, that last thing you want is for the patient to get a lumpectomy while the disease is still localized. Republicans are ready, scalpel in hand, and “Operation Demoralize” (great term, Prof. Jacobson!) is fear-mongering over sponges that are sometimes left in the body after surgery.

This post is what you would call a “must read”.
