While everyone was focused on the dumpster fire that is Afghanistan, an innocuous NAVADMIN (a Naval message that relates to administrative issues) came out on the 23rd of August, subject line OPNAVINST 3100.6K. NAVADMINs are normally pretty boring. They cover policy like how you can use your GI Bill, when people get promoted, or various annual awards.

OPNAVINST 3100.6 is the instruction that covers situation reports (SITREPs). SITREPs are required reports that Navy units send when bad things happen. For example, if a Sailor is arrested for drunk driving, a unit would notify their immediate superior in command (the “ISIC”) by using a formatted message called a Navy Unit Sitrep. OPNAVINST 3100.6 gives you the exact format to send this message, which are also called OPREP-3 messages (short for Operational Report). The instruction covers more serious messages too. In those cases, units might send an OPREP-3 Navy Blue message. This message goes to the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) office, as well as the ISIC and others. Incidents that require a Navy Blue are more serious or carry negative media attention, hence the need to notify the CNO lest he be surprised. A good example was when COVID-19 was first discovered, any Navy person that contracted it required an OPREP-3 Navy Blue message.

The most recent change to OPNAVINST 3100.6 is now version K and added this section:

4. MAJOR PERSONNEL INCIDENT CHANGES INCLUDE: [SRB, EXTREMIST BEHAVIORS,
BULLYING, ETC.]
4.A. ADDED PERSONNEL INCIDENT REPORTING FOR SUPREMACIST OR EXTREMIST
BEHAVIORS.

Bullying? Supremacist Activity? Extremist Activity? Yup, these all require varying forms of Navy Sitrep messages. We don’t know what level (that’s not released), so we have to guess what becomes a Unit Sitrep and what becomes a Navy Blue. At a minimum, every time we have something resembling bullying, supremacist or extremist activity, a message must be sent out.

This becomes a tsunami of messages when we define extremist groups as:

– an organization that espouses supremacist causes;
– attempts to create illegal discrimination based on race, creed, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex (including gender identity), sexual orientation or religion;
– advocates using force or violence;
– or otherwise engages in efforts to deprive individuals of their civil rights.

Navy Discussion Guide on Extremism

So, if a Navy member participates in an Antifa protest, do we label him as an extremist? They certainly “advocate for the use of violence.”

What about Black Panthers?

What if someone accuses Republicans of “depriving them of civil rights” (like we’re seeing with the voter registration issues)?

Vox headline

Is being a Catholic extremist because they won’t give Communion to someone that is openly living a homosexual lifestyle?

The problem with this broad definition is that it is broad and goal posts move all the time. People used to argue that homosexual unions would never impact Christians, until Christian bakers were sued for not making wedding cakes. Or the goal post moves the other way, and protests that burned down homes and businesses become “mostly peaceful,” and obviously didn’t incite any violence whatsoever. BTW, it’s been illegal to be in extremist groups since 1990, and people do get kicked out for racism (watch episode four of the PBS series Carrier for an example).

Besides, didn’t we make service members sit through training for this that covered:

Speech that incites violence or criminal activity that threatens to undermine our government and Constitution is not protected by the First Amendment.

and Vandalizing government property and storming a police barrier is not an exercise of First Amendment
rights.

Extremists don’t have a place in our Navy, but when we make the definition really broad, soon we’re all going to get painted as extremists. When that happens (and its a when now, not an if), why would you want to join the Navy? Remember that the Navy is constantly bringing in new people, to the tune of around 40,000 every year. People sign up for a variety of reasons, but one big assumption is the fairness and meritocratic environment that the Navy claims to have. When you remove that, or even appear to do so, it removes a large incentive to join. It’s already hard enough to get people to join, especially if you want people with high technical skills. I fear that this change is going to drive people to leave after a first enlistment and not bother staying around, if for no other reason then the worry they’ll be labeled as a bully or extremist.

Very Quick DaTechGuy Thoughts

I see that the parole board has granted Parole to Sirhan Sirhan the killer of RFK with the backing of two of RFK’s kids. While I would not have done it as he served 50+ years for the murder and his kids went along with it who am I to say otherwise.

I’m old enough to remember when the media celebrated members of the military who attacked their Commander in Chief even as he led them to victory over terrorists. Apparently if a C in C has a “D” after his name then this type of dissent is no longer allowed., even if that C in C leads your forces to their worst defeat in decades and set them up for further slaughter.

Apparently a Bishop in Chicago has forbidden a priest from closing mass with a “Hail Mary” and the St. Michael prayer (which every mass at my parish is ended in). Not sure if this is a blanket ruling for his diocese but I’m remined of an old Catholic Quip: “In the days of Jesus 1 in 12 Bishops was a traitor, these days we’re not doing any better.”

That the Boston Red Sox are in a playoff race (although apparently not as much as they were a month ago) and I still haven’t bothered to watch a game tells me how much MLB has chased me away. If you told me three years ago this was possible I wouldn’t have believed you.

Finally a bit of Catholic advice. A friend of mine declined some advice to avoid confrontation with the devil taking instead a “Bring it on” attitude rather than one declining to engage & trusting in prayer. This has proved to be large mistake on my friend’s part. Never forget the Devil is a master psychologist with Millennia of experience dealing with humans. Don’t debate, don’t engage, prayer, scripture & occasional laughter are your best tools here.

“You wanted confirmation [of the presence of the enemy] take a look. There’s your confirmation!”

As a general rule following the phrase: “Don’t put down to malice what can be explained by stupidity.” is a safe one to follow but I must confess that I find it impossible to follow this rule in the case of the latest suicide bombing that took out a dozen American soldiers and hundreds of others this week.

While we are seeing people trying to defend Joe Biden on this the general consensus is that we have an incompetent leader unable to make sane decisions and he is to blame for this.

I disagree.

It’s true that Joe Biden is an incompetent moron, and thus a very handy scapegoat here because of his obvious dementia & physical deficiencies but I don’t blame him because I don’t believe for one moment that the fellow who is reading aloud about who he is ordered to take questions for is making any decisions here.

The primary blame is of course on the killers themselves, but they were killers and terrorists long before Jan 20th 2021 so to be shocked and/or surprised that when enabled to kill rather than being restrained (as was the case in the Trump years) they would do so.

Nor does my ire go heavily toward the Generals and Sgt. majors of the Army who were busy celebrating “diversity” rather than beating themselves with mea culpas over their tactical failures. These people are following the incentives of the deep state that have gotten them power and position and are remaining true to their nature.

Democrat pols like Pelosi and company and various press organs that are playing defense for this administration are also not getting my knickers in a twist. These people were corrupt long ago and any sudden move toward regret or introspection over dead Americans (see Benghazi or Chicago on a weekly basis) would be out of character. Their only regrets at the sight of people blown up by the Taliban and the newly returned ISIS & Al-Qaeda are the potential political damage they might face.

I’m not even all that upset about our enemies who in my opinion, own and run this administration. They are our enemies. The humiliations of the nation and the deaths of our men is their goal, why should anyone be shocked that when they are given the power to shape our destiny they should have the puppets they control pursue these ends.

None of those who I’ve listed have earned my ire, that’s reserved for every single legislature, every single judge, every single official who knew the last election was stolen, who understood that their attempts to pass the buck was undermining our democracy and when given the choice to do something about it looked for technical reasons to do otherwise.

Every single one of these people from the AG of Georgia to the various judges who across the nation who decided to get along to go along, who didn’t want to make waves, who were afraid of what the press might say or the various Democrat thugs, each one of them enabled our enemies rather than see what was in front of their faces.

All of the others here, while evil, did what they did because of their nature, it’s what they’ve been doing right along for years. These folks who had the legal authority to stop them refused to because they were cowards.

It’s going to take a long time for me to forgive them, particularly when these scene are repeated in Afghanistan and around the world over the next three years. And even if my managed to generate the Christian charity to forgive someday I’ll never forget.

It is obvious to anyone living in the real world that the United States military is rapidly becoming a woke joke thanks to the buffoon currently inhabiting the White House.  Rather than focusing on readiness, training, and technologically improved weapon systems the US military now focuses on transgenderism, critical race theory, and Marxism.

Joe Biden and his handlers have populated the Pentagon with generals who are not fit to command a troop of circus clowns rather than the best trained, most professional, and most technologically advanced military that ever existed.

The philosophy now imposed on the US military is un-American and anti-America in the extreme.  The Biden regime has attempted to use the Capitol Hill riots as an excuse to purge the military of conservatives and those on the political right.  This is creating a dangerous situation where the US military could be more loyal to a political party rather than to the United States as a whole.

New technologies are not being explored.  New weapon systems are not being developed.  For many decades the United States military enjoyed a large technological advantage over the rest of the world.  Right now that is in grave danger.  China may soon over take us.

The disastrous events in Afghanistan last week are the direct result of seven months of bungling by the Biden regime.

Sadly this is not the first time the US military has experienced a rapid and total collapse.  It has happened twice before in the last fifty years.  Both times before there was a Marxist Democrat in the White House.  Things were so bad under Jimmy Carter that if the Soviets had decided to over run Europe they probably would have succeeded.  Things were almost as bad under Obama

With more than three years until the next election I am desperately worried that the United States military will be a world class joke before there is any hope of repairing the damage done by the senile clown inhabiting the White House.  Replacing Biden with Harris would not do any good at all.

All of the spineless Republicans who failed to stand up and prevent and overturn the theft of the 2020 presidential election are responsible for this nightmare.
