when, not if, the SJW affirmative action Doctor fails what then? If the ratings don’t improve and the audience doesn’t return do you DARE kill off the 1st woman doctor after one season? After two? Do you risk the wrath of the SJW community if you don’t replace the 1st woman doctor with the 2nd woman doctor or the first openly gay doctor hitting on every man in history or the first transgender doctor or the first cisnormative but sexually confused asian crossdressing doctor? You get the idea. Once you start down this path you’ll have a tough time getting out of it without facing a backlash and we’ve already seen how very nice the SJW community reacts?

DaTechGuy Why The Doctor should not be Tilda Swinton (or any woman for that matter) 2017

Yesterday while I was at the Catholic Men’s Conference and away from the net Ladd Ehlinger sent me a heads up on a video he made called “Doctor Who is Doomed”.

When I saw the title this morning I expected a post about how the series even with the temporary return of David Tennant and the less temporary return of Russell T Davies was not going to be enough to save the series from the self inflicted wounds it gave itself in 2017

Instead it was about a trailer the BBC put out for it’s Doctor Who Doom cross platform series.

I had heard of this from Big Finish which is one of the platforms this story is going to be on which says this about it on the pre-order page.

Someone has sent literal Death after Doom. She can only outrun it for 24 hours. Unless she can find the Doctor…

Doom’s Day is a multi-platform Doctor Who story to celebrate Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary by introducing a brand-new character on a 24-hour pursuit of the Doctor.

Further story details to follow.

And this on the backstage Tab of the preorder page

Russell T Davies says: “Doom’s Day is a huge new adventure for the whole Doctor Who universe – starring the brilliant and hilarious Sooz Kempner as an intergalactic assassin. Her adventures will span comics, audio, a novel, video games stories and more, expanding the world of Doctor Who into brand new territories. Beware the Doom’s Day, it’s coming for us all.”

Sooz Kempner says: “To be part of the Doctor Who universe, a British institution up there with cups of tea and James Bond, is surreal and amazing! I love everything about Doom and can’t believe I get to travel across time and space with her.”

Now in fairness I don’t know anything about Sooz Kempner. To my knowledge I’ve never seen any of her work and I have no idea if she is funny or how funny she was, but let me tell you this. If I were her agent and saw the preview that Ladd Ehlinger showed me in his video I would have given her this advice:

I don’t want to steal Ladd’s Thunder so here is his video Doctor Who is Doomed which incorporates the BBC promo for the Doom cross platform series.

Ok let’s forget for a moment the point Ladd was making concerning the history of breaking the 4th wall and filmmaking which is interesting but doesn’t include my favorite example of such namely the Bob Hope, Bing Crosby Dorthey Lamour Road Pictures…

…and ask yourself this:

You’re the BBC. You’ve just finished a five year disaster that has cratered the ratings of not only a British institution but of what once was a cash cow for the network for decades. A crater so bad that you needed to bring back multiple doctors and companions from the original series run (Including William Russell who was in the very first episode of Doctor Who setting the record by returning to a TV series 57 years later to play the same character at age of 97) in order to sell a regeneration story.

You’ve then instead of instead of introducing the announced new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa who will be both the first black doctor and reportedly the first gay doctor brought back the very popular David Tennant who was the 10th doctor his popular companion Catherine Tate and even showrunner Russell T Davies to try to salvage something for the 60th anniversary of the show (while sneaking in the first transgender companion) in the hopes of drawing back the millions who have not only stopped watching but stopped buying all the licensed stuff that filled your coffers.

You’ve even created a clever gimmick of having a cross platform story over comic books, video games, a book, a Big Finish audio and the TV show to try and get people who have dropped all things Doctor to buy all those side items that they have abandoned.

You’ve done all this with hope that the series returns to the ratingsy that it had during those pre-Cibinal years…:

Apparently this strategy has not been all that productive when it came to the new “festive” special:

Whereas the Christmas Special used to get ratings in the 12 million, 13 million range, the latest “Festive Special” got… 4.69 million.

The absolute lowest of the rebooted Doctor Who.

…And the Quality of the those years:

The irony being that according to my oldest who actually watched it the episode was one best of the Jodie Whitaker series, in that it was better than the absolute worst episodes (like Fear Her and Oxygen) of the revived series but not as good as what could be considered a standard vanilla episode like The Curse of the Black Spot or even Thin Ice.

And you produce a promo that is so bad, so unappealing and so amateurish that any fan making a trailer of their own would be ashamed to put it out.

Moreover Russell T Davies is the showrunner for the series. He has been given the ultimate task of selling this to a reluctant audience skittish about returning. Let he allows (or even worse) creates this promo to be the gateway to his tenure on the series?

Seriously?

If this is a signal of the days to come under RTD part 2 let me repeat the warning given in the Big Bang clip above to those who are considering investing their time and money in this Doom special:

Run away Dude! Run Fast, Run Far!

But don’t worry, most won’t be coming back.

The military changed its rules on the COVID-19 vaccine because the science showed it didn’t actually work Congress passed a law requiring them to do so. Now that this has changed, the military wants the members that it kicked out to come on back…or at least, some people do. Others still cling to the “You disobeyed orders and should be punished!

With the Pentagon’s COVID-19 vaccine order lifted, troops can refuse to take the shot without risking ending their careers. But those who refused it in the past could still be booted for “disobeying a lawful order,” Defense Department officials warned lawmakers Tuesday. “It’s very important that our service members follow orders when they are lawful, and there are thousands that did not,” Gilbert Cisneros Jr., Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel, told members of the House Armed Services Committee. “The services are going through a process to review those cases to make a determination what needs to be done.”

So, in other words

Remember, we aren’t talking small numbers either:

Defense Department leaders said about 16,000 individuals refused that order without making any requests for exemption or accommodation. About 8,400 were separated from the services as a result.

I’m sure they will be coming back in droves. Remember this?

And this?

I give the Navy credit, at least all the individuals kicked out received honorable discharges. The Army was not so nice. A general discharge can impact the benefits you receive from the VA. It’s a choice by the service, and as the majority got a General Discharge, it defnitely means the discharging authority was angry over the refusal to obey orders, despite the fact the science was questionable at best on the vaccine.

I said it before, and I’ll say it again, this was NOT a good hill to die on for the military. Encouraging vaccines is one thing, but until there was a few years of data, you were just going to piss people off with mandates. Add a few young people dying after the shot, whether it was vaccine related or not, and you have a massive PR crisis on your hands.

Lawmakers are hoping many of those discharged will come back:

They did note that the vaccine refusals make up a small fraction of the total force, and said they hope that most service members continue to get the COVID-19 vaccines even without the mandate. Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers on the panel said they hope to reinstate all dismissed individuals to the armed forces with full benefits and back pay. Cisneros said officials are not looking into any such move at the present.

Fat chance. The emphasis on “small fraction” misses a key point: every single member kicked out is going to tell all their friends to not join. The military just created 16,000 influencers, a portion of whom will take to social media and create a recruiting nightmare for the military. Worse still, this doesn’t count the many members that chose to retire early or voluntarily separate rather than continue service. Remember that “unprecedented” rise in military retirements and separations noted in the Health of the Force survey? That’s not random. You can only beat down on people for so long before they start to vote with their feet. Even among people who took the COVID vaccine, there is a fairly large number that didn’t think the mandate was a good idea. I make plenty of choices that I think are smart, but I wouldn’t mandate them on others, and I’m not alone in this thinking.

The military created this mess, and its spilling over into recruitment and retention. Expect it to get worse, despite anything that Congress will do.

According to a reporter to Today’s News Africa who is assigned the White House beat there is discrimination going on at the press briefings:

“They don’t take questions from any African journalists.”

Imagine the MSM outcry if this was said by a black African reporter under Trump or Bush.

This headline at Fox conserving Idaho is interesting

Idaho gov signs bill barring transgender students from using bathrooms consistent with their gender identity

Such a woke headline rather than pointing out that students will be forced to use bathrooms that correspond with reality.

Of the course the person hardest hit in Teddy Brewster whose family has been lobbying for a bill forcing people to salute in his presence and require them to address him as either “Mr President” or “Colonel”

One of the reasons why Donald Trump does not like the response of Ron DeSantis to the possibility of his indictment is it highlights something about the whole Trump/Daniels business. While the prosecution is clearly political, the “crime” at best a paperwork misdemeanor that the statute of limitations has passed on. A “crime” even the Justice department has passed on there is one adjective concerning the alleged affair and payoff of Ms. Daniels by Mr. Trump that is just as unapplicable to this case as it was concerning Bill Clinton’s visits to Jeffrey Epstein’s island.

“Unbelieveable”

It’s because it is so believable to the public that the left keeps bringing it up.

Of course folks like me lost the culture war where such a thing was disqualifying almost 30 years ago to the left so I find it very interesting that they suddenly think it beyond the pale.

Today I’ll be at Assumption College in Worcester attending the Catholic Men’s Conference at the WQPH booth. I’ll have copies of my book to sell and will be taking prayer requests from any who wish to make them.

Hope to see you there.

A topic that may or may not come up is the Pope’s special that will be on Disney+ addressing issue with young people.

If it was St. John Paul II or Benedict XVI I’d be excited but I shudder at what Francis might say. Of course if St. John Paul II or Benedict XVI was still pope Disney+ would have no interest in giving the Pope a platform.

Unexpectedly of course

Finally one slightly amusing oddity. I’m Car pooling to the Men’s Conference and am supposed to meet the folks I’m going with between 6:30 & 6:45 AM today.

As I normally get up at 7:30 or later and I had trouble getting to sleep last night so my wife set two alarms for 6 AM on her phone as we no longer have an alarm clock.

So naturally I woke at 5:10 with no problem and was unable to shut off said alarms to keep from waking her. Rest assured that if the Alarms were not set I would still be asleep now.

A Godsend for the Democrats

With the whole “Trump Indictment” business turning from a welcome distraction from bank failures, Ukraine failures and economic failures to an exercise if leftist incompetence the Democrat left needs some good news.

They’re about to get some:

Now in one respect this is good and Reade is pleased to have her day

Now you might consider it odd that I would describe this as a Godsend for Democrats but you forget something.

When this stuff first began to come out Joe Biden was both hiding in his basement and running for President against an incumbent Donald Trump, The last thing the left needed was anything resembling a credible case that their candidate for president sexually assaulted anybody.

But now Democrats are scared to death of Biden running for re-election and need an excuse, ANY excuse to nudge old Joe out of the race before the primaries. This is a problem because while not much is working upstairs for President Biden these days he does still remember where 50 years of bodies are buried so people aren’t anxious to go up against him.

This however is just the type of thing that can be used to make trouble and give people a face saving excuse to look elsewhere if the Democrats choose to use it.

Watch the media closely. How they react to this story when it happens will tell you if the decision to dump old joe has been made.
