Do I detect a tiny hint of Brady?

I have spent most of the last week in bed the first day being taking care of DaWife who got COVID and then getting it myself. It’s really laid me out and basically the most strenuous things I’ve managed since last Wednesday has been putting up the St. Matthew Novena for those FBI agents (day 8 later today)

One of the few advantages of this situation is that when I’m not totally zonked out trying to sleep, which has been very difficult I’d had access to the net and thus got to follow a most interesting development.

As you might know 21 years ago the New England Patriots starting QB got himself hurt in game and a young 6th round pick who had not been on anybody’s radar came in. Took the starting job and never looked back. That young fellow was Tom Brady who now has 7 Superbowl rings and would not shock anyone if he came home with an eighth by season’s end.

Well last week the Patriots starting QB Mac Jones a 1st round pick out of Alabama ended up down with an injury meaning that Backup QB (and defacto coach) Brian Hoyer would be starting for New England with a young 4th round pick Bailey Zappe to back him up.

Not many people expected this game to be close but the real surprise was not Aaron Rogers’s 500th TD pass but that Hoyer would go down with an injury and Zappe would have to take over under fire.

Even fewer people expected that he would lead the team to several scores and that the game would go to overtime tied at 24 till Green Bay with no time left on the overtime clock would kick a game winning field goal.

Now does this mean that lightning is about to strike again for the Pats with a late draft pick that nobody wanted? Unlikely, there is only one Tom Brady. But I’m going to be very interested in seeing what happens next week when he likely gets his first start

Put simply Bill Belichick is the greatest coach of all time…as long as he has the greatest player of all time playing for him.

If not he is a pretty good coach smart enough to coax an extra win or two for a team.

Meanwhile Tom Brady is the the greatest player of all time who not only wins divisions and superbowls wherever he plays but he does it at an age when people have usually been behind a TV camera for half a decade or more.

Update: I’ll add one caveat, if Bill Belichick can make the playoffs with this Patriots team and this coaching staff I might have to promote him from pretty good to great in my mind.

Some righteous blows against the left

With the left’s stranglehold hold over the past few decades on much of the arts, entertainment, and sporting industries, it’s encouraging to see conservatives gaining ground.

For example, singer John Rich aimed his latest song, Progress, at the left’s agenda—a piece that quickly rose to the top of the charts on most music websites. If you haven’t seen the video, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMEECbKOH7Q

In the song’s lyrics, Rich outlines a variety of divisive subjects, including his views:

–America’s replacement of religion with government
–Immigration and the death of American soldiers during the evacuation from Afghanistan
–The encroachment on freedoms during the COVID lockdowns
–The impact on Main Street as Wall Street profited from government actions

The message of the chorus is hard to miss:

Stick your progress where the sun don’t shine.
Keep your big mess away from me and mine.
If you leave us alone, we’d all be just fine!

But there’s more. A trio of motion pictures, Top Gun: Maverick, The Gray Man, and The Terminal List, underline individual achievement and patriotism. While the critics may not like these films, audiences love them, highlighting how the elite no longer has much to do with what people like.

In Top Gun, Navy pilots have been tasked with destroying a uranium enrichment plant in a dangerous mission from which few of the fliers are expected to return. Spoiler alert: The pilots complete the difficult mission through individual heroism, military teamwork, and patriotism. 

In The Gray Man and The Terminal List, special forces operators fight corruption in the intelligence and military through a determination to fight evil at all costs. 

The Gray Man, which appears in theaters and on Netflix, comes from a book by Mark Greaney, who helped Tom Clancy with the Jack Ryan series. Jack Carr, a former Navy Seal, wrote The Terminal List, which is a series on Amazon.com. 

All three films are about as red, white, and blue as you can get, emphasizing the importance of moral decisions and individual accomplishment. 

But there’s even more. 

In the heart of leftist academia in Ann Arbor, Michigan, head football coach Jim Harbaugh underlined his pro-life stance. 

Harbaugh told ESPN he encourages his family, players, and staff members that if they could not take care of a baby after an unplanned pregnancy, then he and his wife would take the child and help raise it.

“I encourage them if they have a pregnancy that wasn’t planned, to go through with it, go through with it,” Harbaugh said. “Let that unborn child be born, and if at that time, you don’t feel like you can care for it, you don’t have the means or the wherewithal, then Sarah and I will take that baby.”

In a world where a lot seems headed in the wrong direction, it’s heartening to see conservatives fighting back in arenas long dominated by the left. 

DaTechGuy’s 3rd Law of Media Outrage NBA Playoffs Mass shooting Edition

The NBA has been very fortunate in their playoffs this year in a couple of respects.

Very exciting games (well except for the closeout game of Dallas vs Phoenix) , Very exciting storylines (The rise of the Celtics, the fall of Kyrie and Harden, the return of Golden State), and the two players most likely remind folks of the league’s dirty dealings with China (Lebron & Freedom) not in the picture, one because his team didn’t make the playoffs (itself an interesting story) and the other because he was immediately released after being traded and blacklisted.

All of this has been fortunate for them to keep the narrative on track but the thing that has really worked out the best for them has been DaTechGuy’s 3rd Law of Media Outrage which states:

The MSM’s elevation and continued classification of any story as Nationally Newsworthy rather than only of local interest is in direct correlation to said story’s current ability to affirm any current Democrat/Liberal/Media meme/talking point, particularly on the subject of race or sexuality.

Now unless you live under a rock you know that there was a mass shooting in Buffalo last week that the left has done it’s best to exploit politically to the point where Joe Biden (well whoever is running Joe Biden) has decided it’s worthwhile for the President to visit the city this week.

Now ask yourself this question.

Let’s say you have a national event , Say an NBA playoff closeout game, and lets say this event is of particular interest even beyond the fanbase of the two teams involved because:

  • It involves the defending champions (Milwaukee)
  • It involves one of the most storied franchises in the history of the game (Boston Celtics)
  • It’s a close out game, where Milwaukee can advance to the Conference Finals with a win & the Celtics need a win to force a game seven
  • It follows one of the most memorable last minute comebacks (Milwaukee’s game five win in Boston) in NBA playoff history

Now lets say just after the game ends with Boston winning on the road and forcing game seven there is a mass shooting at the arena where 17 people are wounded and fans leaving the stadium are literally running for their lives

You just might think that 17 people shot exiting an NBA stadium just might make the national news, that is if you were unaware of DaTechGuy’s 3rd law of media outrage. Because if you were then you would know that Fox would cover it:

“Everybody started running,” witness Brittany Bergstrom, who was at a nearby restaurant, told FOX 6 in Milwaukee. “There was a stampede, people running over the shrubs, hats shoes on the ground, drinks spilled everywhere.”

She said her boyfriend pulled her behind a brick wall, “and if he wouldn’t have this outcome would be a lot different. And that’s all I know and everybody took off running and I just kept running.” 

What I was really interested in wasn’t the lack of National News coverage which I expected to be non-existent, but the degree that NBA fans, who followed the series, were aware of it. Surely such fans would have heard about this on social media or on sports media coverage.

So when I went to work on Sunday I asked people who were following game seven about the shooting.

Not a single person I talked to had even heard of it!

Like I said the NBA has been very fortunate this year when it comes to their playoffs. They were most fortunate that the Celtics won game seven because with a curfew in effect it would have been impossible to hide the reason why in the coverage of a game 3 in Milwaukee vs the Heat

Closing thought: I wonder how much the idea of having to play the next series in a free fire zone affected the defending Champion Bucks, who had already won two games at the Garden in Boston in this series when they were playing game seven? It’s one thing for betting on sports to affect a series but having to bet your life, I suspect that’s bigger.

Closing thought Number 2. Not only did the last GOP mayor of Milwaukee leave office in 1908 but there have been three times as many Socialist mayors of Milwaukee in the 20th century (3) then there were Republican Mayors (1).
