At Newsbusters Tim Graham touches on “catholic” Bob McEvliane’s attempt to flog his new book at the Washington Post by attacking the Pope.

There’s a word for people who do not recognize the Pope as an authority: they’re called Protestants.

And that is the point that needs to be made over and over again. If your book is ranked 178,178th on Amazon it might be useful to get a page on the Post to hit the pope. Hitting the pope is almost a guarantee to get space on any liberal paper these days, but if you want to be a Catholic rejecting the church’s teaching on birth control and abortion in print isn’t the way to go.

As much as foes of the Church would like to pretend otherwise, this isn’t Saudi Arabia and nobody is going to behead you if you want to leave the Catholic Church. Feel free to do so, sell as many books as you like, enjoy the talk show circuit. I’m sure you will be feted and respected by the right people for the rest of your life…

…after that you’re on your own

WBC Roundup USA USA USA!

Considering that Puerto Rico is a part of the US it amounts to beating yourself but an amazing 9th inning comeback brought the US from the brink of elimination to the Final pool of the WBC.

Now the question who do you want to play in final round Korea, Japan or Cuba? All are nasty.

On the other side of the country a sloppy first inning made the difference as Korea beat Japan to clinch their spot in the final four.

This sets up the last meaningful game of this pool tonight Japan vs Cuba at 11 p.m.

This is Cuba’s last chance to avenge their defeat of last year and their shutout by Japan earlier this round. I’ve got to give Japan the edge here.

The tune-up game between US and Venezuela this is their 3rd meeting in the tourney and it’s anybody’s game. It will be good baseball but this is the “scrubs” game. You’ve gotta be holding back your best for the one and out game this weekend.

Anyone who thought these games would be boring has been proven very wrong.

Oh these are the good Palestinians…

…that we should give money to:

In the interview, Dahlan was asked about reports that Fatah was demanding that Hamas recognize Israel’s right to exist as a precondition for the establishment of a Palestinian “unity government.” He called the reports “misleading” and said Hamas was “putting words in our mouths.”

Dahlan added: “They say that Fatah has asked them to recognize Israel’s right to exist and this is a big deception. For the one thousandth time, I want to reaffirm that we are not asking Hamas to recognize Israel’s right to exist. Rather, we are asking Hamas not to do so because Fatah never recognized Israel’s right to exist.”

He explained that it was the PLO, and not Fatah, which recognized Israel’s right to exist when the Oslo Accords were signed in 1993.

Fatah is the largest faction in the PLO. The second largest faction is the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

“We acknowledge that the PLO did recognize Israel’s right to exist, but we are not bound by it as a resistance faction,” he added.

Can we please stop the fiction of these Arabs wanting to live in peace with Israel. These Palestinians have the same plan for Israel as Sheridan did for the Indians.

Does it occur to anyone…

…that all this chest beating and telegraphing about “getting” AIG is setting up a situation where they can pass a “We’ll show them” bill so it can be done loudly and with great flair but can be quietly found unconstitutional or tweaked later.

I think this smells.
