    Somehow I get the feeling that he thought it would be easier, but I really think that a big chuck of the blame for that belongs to the media that didn’t challenge him.

    I’m presuming from your link that you are in England and you didn’t see it up close, the idolatry was incredible. If he had been challenged more I’d still disagree with him a lot but he would be a better president.
