Don’t aspire to be the NYT of the blogosphere

It looks like Digger’s Realm and Kimberly Dvorak are bucking for the title NYT of the blogosphere from what we are seeing at Confederate Yankee :

I noted she can’t provide any evidence to support her story, and was not likely develop evidence to support it. I told her that at this point, she should issue a retraction, mentioning that her LE sources have made claims, but that they are contradicted by multiple agencies and Laredo media, both print and television.

Her response was even more telling.

I have not got anyone to tell me via phone or email – ‘It did not happen, name and title.’ They tell me they can neither confirm or deny. My LE was there. I’m not asking you to believe me or tell me I’m lying. It was a FYI story and I stand by it. Senior DHS brass have said it did not happen, but said that was off the record and no name. Why? So to me there is no proof one way or the other.

In fairness to everyone I posed on the story myself when I saw it with a qualifier or two but my update striking it came within 5 min of the first post.

If you have something wrong the best thing to do is to admit it and move on. We are all human and we are going to get some things wrong, particularly if you are an individual without an organization to back you up. I know it’s hard, particularly if you have what appears to be a big scoop and the hits have come in droves, but, it’s bad form, just let it go.

Let’s leave the “you can’t prove it didn’t happen” standard for the MSM.

Update: It looks like I owe both of them an apology

Take a look at this post at Dan Riehl’s place.

Read it quite carefully. Here is my prediction:

The media will totally ignore this, and call it out of context and site Breitbart as their justification, however our friends on the left will withhold judgment until a “full video” (which this time not be forthcoming) is released.

We will not see Shirley Sherrod, her husband Charles, or their daughter Russia (yes you read that right) on the air it will not be touched.

Anyone want to make book on my prediction?

Update That didn’t take long, Did it? Memeorandum thread here.

If the Australian story is right…

…then this is going to hit this administration:

Correspondence obtained by The Sunday Times reveals the Obama administration considered compassionate release more palatable than locking up Abdel Baset al-Megrahi in a Libyan prison.

The intervention, which has angered US relatives of those who died in the attack, was made by Richard LeBaron, deputy head of the US embassy in London, a week before Megrahi was freed in August last year on grounds that he had terminal cancer.

The document, acquired by a well-placed US source, threatens to undermine US President Barack Obama’s claim last week that all Americans were “surprised, disappointed and angry” to learn of Megrahi’s release.

Back when this happened I said this:

I can’t see how England did this without at least informing the US if this is true the big loser is Not going to be president Obama.

Back when Hillary was named Sec of State it seemed a shrewd move for both parties. By making Mrs. Clinton a part of the administration she is tied to it, and by taking State she not only avoids having to deal with a declining economy but she puts herself in a position to resign in protest at a key moment if she wants to make a move.

Since Mrs. Clinton has become almost an afterthought in this administration it looks like I’m going to be wrong, it will not hit Clinton it will hit President Obama.

memeorandum thread here

Will Morning Joe and everyone else who have been pushing this story continue to do so if this blows up in the Administration’s face. I think Mika still will, but I wouldn’t be on anyone else in the MSM.

Update: Michelle Malkin: So much for Smart Diplomacy.

Ezra Klein on Morning Joe…

…so far not a word concerning journolist, or the daily caller stuff yet. We are at 8:10 and nothing yet.

8:15 Still nothing.

8:20 We’re into commercial, absolutely no mention. Cripes were these guys on vacation with Bob Schieffer?

8:23 Still no Journolist. I’m betting on a single CYA question just before he leaves so he can give an unchallenged response. Will I be wrong?

8:30 He appears to be gone, not even the CYA question. If they’re not ashamed they ought to be. They had better waive the not having 2 Fitchburg guys (Mike Barnicle) working for them and hire me posthaste. That would give them at least one person in favor of the war and one person willing to ask Ezra Klein the journolist question. Hey I’ll can blog for you from home 5 days a week for $20 an hour, it’s a bargain!

Update: How is it possible that people who actually get paid to do journalism could actually do this? How can people who claim to ask the tough question let this go? It’s an offense against their professional honor. This is why I say that the real offense of media bias is the ability to decide what stories are stories. Morning Joe decided that their audience didn’t need to hear about this, so they will not.

Joe, Mika, Barnicle, you guys are better than this.
