We have now been hearing a discussion where people are asking: Is Tom Brady the greatest player in an American Team Sport ever? Brady being in his 10th Superbowl has earned him a place in that conversation with 10 trips to the finals in 21 chances. Or to put it another way,

  • Tom Brady’s avg of going to superbowls is higher than Ty Cobb’s avg of getting hits.
  • Tom Brady’s avg of going to superbowls is higher than the 3 point percentage of any NBA player in history
  • The only NFL team that has been to more Superbowls than Tom Brady is the New England Patriots with eleven trips over 61 years to Tom’s ten in 21 years. Nine of those trips were in years they were led by Tom Brady.
  • Tom Brady’s as of today has one less playoff win then Maurice Richard has Stanley Cup goals.

That being the case Brady deserves to be in consideration for the best player in a major American Team sport (Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey) of all time. There are two people in that conversation with him. Babe Ruth and Bill Russell.

Babe Ruth in 22 years went to 10 World Series winning Seven and if you look at the Baseball Reference pages over his career led the league in over 200 different categories over his career as both a Pitcher and as a Right fielder.

Bill Russell in 13 seasons in the NBA went to the playoffs every season making it to the finals 12 times and winning 11 titles, two of them as player coach.

Brady has four things in common with Ruth and Russell.

  • A Long Career
  • Success early and late in a career
  • Regular trips to the Finals
  • Long tenures in Boston

Brady has one thing in Common with Ruth favoring him over Russell

  • Success on multiple teams under multiple coaches/managers

Brady has two things in common with Russell over Ruth

  • A high level of play every uninjured season of his career (to this point) (Ruth’s final season stunk)
  • Never having cost his team a title with a boneheaded play to lose a series (Ruth inexplicably getting caught stealing in 1926 to lose the World Series)

And Brady has one advantage over Both Russell & Ruth

  • No Margin for error.

In a championship season Babe Ruth and his teams had the liberty of having as many as three bad games or three games where the opposing team outplayed them while still being capable of winning a championship. Bill Russell’s margin of error was larger, with a 6 to 9 game margin or error as their series were all best of seven. Or to put it simply if your better team had a bad day you still had the rest of a series games to show the other guy whose actually better.

However Tom Brady , as a football player, had no such margin of error. A single bad game or a single bad move and you are out. Russell’s Celtics & Ruth’s Yanks and Sox could blow a game or two in a series and still win. Brady never had that luxury.

Why then does Brady rank behind Russell? Very simple. While this season it’s been implied that Brady has functioned as a “coach” to the Offense, Bill Russell for two seasons won titles while actually being the head coach as well as the center. He not only had to play at a high level but had to while on the floor manage the team, call the plays and be aware enough to coach the team to the playoffs and to the title. He not only managed to do so, but managed to do so TWICE.

For that reason I give Russell an edge over Brady, at least so far. If Brady goes to an 11th Superbowl (which is entirely in the realm of possibility I may revisit that advantage.

However Babe Ruth has an advantage over Brady that is even more pronounced. He not only won six titles as the most feared slugger in the major leagues but won three titles as one of the top pitchers in the Majors. It would be as if Brady won his first three titles as the top linebacker or Defensive End before switching to Quarterback. Furthermore Ruth fundamentally changed the game of baseball in a way neither Russell nor Brady did in their sports. It’s true that after Ruth started hitting homers other soon followed, but Ruth did it first and the only chemical enhancements he had were hot dogs and beer.

For this reason I consider Babe Ruth the greatest team sport player in the history of sports, over Russell and over Brady. If Brady wins the superbowl this year and perhaps one other then I may revisit these rankings, if not then.

FYI Michael Jordon doesn’t make this list because while he won six titles in six trips all those titles came in the 2nd half of his career all with the same team and system and failed to make the playoffs with the wizards when he came back. LeBron James doesn’t make this list because of only four titles wins but given that he won three titles in three different cities under three different systems and has been to the finals 10 times one more trip will force him to be considered in this company. Kareem fails to make the top 3 because despite the six titles with two teams and titles early and late in his career, he had a very long period without making those finals or more properly if included on this list he is currently 5th with LeBron right behind him. Yogi Berra with 10 titles in 14 years and 3 MVP titles in a league that had Mantle & Williams is the person that Brady edges out for 3rd. Berra might have had better stats but his development was curtailed by a more pressing engagement off Normandy on June 6th 1944 & two months later in the invasion on the southern coast of France. In fact you might even be able to make a case for Berra going all the way to the top.

My top five list as of this moment would run Ruth, Russell, Brady, Berra, & Jabbar in that order with King James knocking on the door and very likely to take Kareem’s spot on this list perhaps as soon as this year.

Woke up today in the mood to do a livestream so let’s do one.

Two years ago Krysten Sinema (D-AZ) was conspicuous in standing and applauding during a President Trump SOTU address when he talk about tax cuts and opportunity zones announced.

Now she is conspicuous again bluntly ruling out the elimination of the filibuster as she promised back in 2019. This not only forces Chuck Schumer into a power sharing agreement in a 50-50 senate (based on the 2001 model) but also means that the Democrats will have to use reconciliation to push through their most radical bills as the only way to pass something with 50 votes (plus Harris).

A Democrat who keeps her promise even after she wins? That’s what I call a “Maverick” but I expect that term will not be applied to her by the press

Unexpectedly of course.

Apparently Joe Manchin of West Virginia has now also come out against Nuking the filibuster.

I found his sudden case of “principle” rather nostalgic because you might remember that during the Kavenaugh hearings Manchen hemmed and hawed and hesitated but in the end came out for Kavanaugh…the very moment Susan Collins declared she would vote for him meaning his vote meant nothing.

Joe Manchin is the John Roberts of the left. When he is the deciding vote that the left needs he always has a vote for them. But as long as his vote has no bearing on if the agenda of the left shall advance then he is with the voters of West Virginia defending them against the excesses of the left and the media trying to save a Democrat seat is ready to paint him as such.

Unexpectedly of course.

There were three interesting moves this week concerning Mitch McConnell as well the first being on the Filibuster . All were savvy moves that perfectly illustrated who and what Mitch McConnell is. On Wednesday McConnell was derided by Mark Steyn on the Rush Limbaugh show for dropping his demand during power sharing negotiations that Chuck Schumer explicitly vow not to nuke the filibuster.

Later that same day he was one of 45 GOP Senators who voted for Rand Paul’s point of order resolution saying the impeachment of an ex-president was unconstitutional.

Finally McConnell put out a threat of a “scorched-earth Senate” if Manchen or Sinema change their mind on a Filibuster

All were classic McConnell. The vote supposedly abandoning conservatives that got Steyn so upset was a meaningless concession to Schumer because it came after Sinema of AZ made it clear that she wouldn’t give Chuck Schumer the votes he needed to nuke it. Thus McConnell makes a public gesture in Schumer favor that I’m sure he got something in return for.

Likewise the “scorched earth” threat while I have no doubt he would follow through on such a threat (see what happened with judges) it again comes not before we know if the filibuster is in danger but after we know it isn’t.

Finally on the Rand Paul vote McConnell knew that his vote meant nothing because five Trump hating republicans, Romney, Collins, Murkowski, Sasse and Toomey were already with the Democrats. Thus McConnell’s could take a vote designed to appease Trump supporters who have been calling for his head and to head off those who are already extracting a deadly price from GOP house members who have gone along with this farce.

In all three cases McConnell made moves that meant nothing and cost nothing but were to his political advantage.

Unexpectedly of course.

As I’ve stated before the NFL is thanking it’s lucky stars that Tom Brady has made it to his 10th Superbowl because it gives conservatives and Trump supporters a reason to watch the game.

However this hasn’t stopped members of the left to cry injustice that Tom Brady still has a job in the NFL and Colin Kaepernick doesn’t.

I took the liberty of going to Football Reference.com and noted Mr. Kaepernick’s stats. Over his six year career he only led the NFL in one stat in any season. That was in 2014 when he threw the more pick-sixes (that is interceptions run back for a touchdown by another team) than any other quarterback in the league.

Meanwhile Tom Brady either leads or has led the NFL in 64 different single season, active or all time categories according to his page.

There is a legitimate debate on if Tom Brady has reached a point where he contends with Babe Ruth or Bill Russell as the greatest team sport athlete in history (pro tip Ruth beats him because he won titles both as both a pitcher & position player and Russell beats him not only for more titles (11) but winning two of them as a player/head coach) but there is no rational debate that suggests Colin Kaepernick is in the same league as Tom Brady.

Kaepernick knows this which is why no offer will be enough to tempt him back into the NFL

Unexpectedly of course.

Finally there is a point that needs to be made about something Ace of Spades said about the establishment GOP & abortion:

Conservative, Inc. only mouths very insincere pro-life rhetoric (but never demands actual action on the issue) to attract social conservatives, who would have no other reason to support their socially-liberal/arch-corporate-libertarian policies otherwise.

They’re “pro-life” with the “four exceptions:”

1. Rape
2. Incest
3. Life of the mother
4. “My situation”

Obviously, that fourth exception covers a lot of ground.

Now this isn’t all that inaccurate but frankly Ace without realizing it has hit on something that is not unique either to Rino or to abortion but is a basic trait when it comes to sin.

One thing you will find is no matter what a persons religion, lack of religion or belief system, when we are talking about the sins of other people we find ourselves ready to condemn those sins.

When it comes to our own sins, a person always seems to have a reason why we deserve a pass.

Unexpectedly of course

FYI that’s the reason why Catholic sacramental confession is superior to all other systems even those of our fellow Christians. Said folks automatically presume the forgiveness of Christ while a Catholic goes before a priest and acknowledges sins, even sins unknown to fellow men, and thus by the act of seeking confession admonish ourselves before God rather than waiting to be caught by others.

It is that self admonishment that opens the door the mercy we do not deserve.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (8/10) Movie CLIP – These Things Happen in War (2015) HD – YouTube

It was obvious to me as I watched it unfold live on TV that there was a lot that was not right about the rioting that took place at the US Capitol on January 6th.  The nature of the US Capitol violence seemed so contrived and it seemed that is was so divorced from the massive peaceful protest that bore all of hallmarks of a true MAGA protest.

The nature of the violence and the nature the more colorful characters on video leading the way and committing most of the violence seemed much more appropriate for an ANTIFA or a Black Lives Matters riot than a MAGA rally.

It made no sense that such a small group would break away from the rest and storm what was supposed to be one of the most secure buildings in the country.  It made no sense that the US Capitol Building could be so easily stormed period yet alone from such a small group. Nothing made sense until I started seeing the following articles indicating that the whole incident was a setup.

Worrisome Signs the Capitol Breach was Planned to Discredit Trump Supporters: An Eyewitness Account – American Thinker

Based on what I saw and read, I have no doubt that dozens and possibly even hundreds of Antifa and/or other provocateurs had infiltrated the rally in order to carry out violent acts and suck impressionable Trump supporters into their antics. None of this violence was justified, but contrast the frustration and conflicted attitude of this Capitol building trespasser with that of the proud of this BLM rioter. One calls for prayer while the other calls for “reparations.”

Some of the more impulsive Trump supporters fell into a trap that served to scapegoat both the Trump administration and the 99.9% of rally participants who neither condoned nor participated in any of the violence.

Were leftist provocateurs leading the way into the Capitol? – American Thinker

First, to state the obvious, there is no question that Trump-supporters criminally entered the Capitol and behaved abominably.  All who breached the inadequate protective perimeter must be prosecuted to the full measure of the law.  Throw the book at them!

But there are grounds for suspicion that provocateurs, anxious to discredit Trump, his supporters, conservatives, and those who question the integrity of the presidential vote may have been the point of the spear in violently attacking the Capitol.

The breach of the Capitol was an obvious set-up – American Thinker

What happened at the Capitol building on Wednesday, to my eyes, obviously was a stratagem to destroy the president’s popularity and support and overshadow the challenges to the Electoral College vote.  The building was breached at the beginning of that process and riveted the media news feeds.  Members of Congress were evacuated with hoods over their heads as if they were in grave danger.

As a group of protesters approached the building, a policeman removed the barricade and appeared to invite them in.

That group entered the rotunda peacefully and stayed behind the rope line.  Those who observed this noted that there were several instigators embedded among the crowd.  They were using bullhorns to agitate and move people.  A couple of them set off flash bangs.

We now know that several known Antifa activists were among the agitators.  As they broke windows, Trump-supporters tried to stop them.  But the distraction worked, frightened the pathetically spineless Republicans who were set to challenge the stolen election.  They quickly capitulated, and Biden was certified.  The Republicans, even the ones we thought had grit, got rolled.

As I read each of the articles I was continuously reminded of the scene from the final Hunger Games movie. which I shared at the beginning of the article.  If you have not read the Hunger Games novels I strongly recommend you do so.  They have an very libertarian message.  They are about a successful rebellion against an extremely powerful and oppressive central government led by President Snow.

When the main character, Katniss Everdeen, and the rebel forces make it to the presidential mansion they notice that it is surrounded by pens containing capitol children serving as human shields for the president.  Out of nowhere a capitol hovercraft appears and drops bombs on the pens of capitol children.  At that point the remaining capitol forces abandon President Snow, ending the war.

As you can see from the scene I shared, President Snow informs Katniss that the head of the rebellion, President Coin, is the person who actually ordered a disguised hovercraft to bomb the capitol children as a ploy to break the will of the remaining capitol forces, ending the war.

I believed that the riot at the US Capitol was the same sort of political ploy by leftists to discredit President Trump and his supporter, just like the authors of the articles I shared here earlier, and the authors of so may other articles I have read on the subject.  I am no conspiracy theorist, I am just the opposite.  I am someone who has studied a great deal of history.  Similar tactics have been used by leftists over and over again.  The Germans during World War II and the Soviets both used that type of tactic.
