Maybe it’s because I’ve got a birthday coming, but if you substitute the words “Afghanistan” with “Iraq”, substitute “Karzai” with “Maliki” and turn the clock back to 2006. It would be the very same conversation. The very same, why are we there, we will be there 10 years or more, why are soldiers dying, we can’t win this war, blah blah blah blah.

C’mon guys we’ve seen this show before. Let me explain a few things.

  • This is a war, in a war both sides try to win, just because we are the US that doesn’t mean the other side is going to stop trying.
  • Yes we are losing troops, that’s because unlike World War 2 we aren’t mass bombing their areas since it would kill an awful lot of civilians. If we DID use all our power the argument would suddenly be how we were killing people indiscriminately.
  • The Taliban is operating in Pakistan, we are not going to go to war or invade a nuclear Pakistan. As long as that is the case we need to be killing the Taliban in Afghanistan.
  • The Goal is the same as the “flypaper” strategy in Iraq. Attract the warriors to a place where we can kill them. We have lost nearly 1,000 soldiers in how many years of war? Does anyone here know what those numbers break down per year? Have you ever heard of a war lasting that long with a loss rate like this. How does it compare to the rates in Chicago, or the Mexican border towns?

If you only know one song people are eventually going to get tired of hearing it.

and politico called it a bellwether race.

Strangely enough all the time that Tim Burns was leading it didn’t make the cut, but now that the latest poll shows Critz leading it becomes critical.

I could be totally wrong about this, Politico on Morning Joe mentioned that it could go either way but I’m shocked it didn’t warrant interest last month.

Update: Now David Gregory is calling Pa-12 a “toss up race”. The plan apparently is to set the race now that the polls favor the dems as a possible or probable loss, so if they win, it becomes a HUGE win for democrats and if they lose, well it was a tight race in a conservative district. This is spin.

…since I gave him a ring as soon as I headed down there and gave him several updates while I was there. He answered with some first rate posts while I was on the ground.

If you haven’t check them out yet you should.

I see why he has a co-blogger, it really gives one a better reach when you have a second person who can be posting while you get the info.

Update: Stacy’s latest: How can someone hate America?

This morning it is really interesting to see the level of coincidence yesterday.

First of all because I had failed to raise the money to get to Pa-12 I was in Fitchburg instead of being on the road.

Because of this I went to morning Mass for Ascension Thursday.

Because of this I ran into my 80 something godfather.

Because of this I was able to invite him to breakfast with my mother and myself.

He ended up going to the wrong diner, because of this I had to go get him.

Because of this I saw the sign at J & R glass concerning the Governor’s visit.

Because of this after breakfast I headed down there to report on it.

Because of this I heard about the cancellation and the terror arrests

and because of that I have the photos and stories that you read yesterday.

The moral of the story? When you attend Mass on a holy day of obligation, good things happen!
