My old review from June 2008 of How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization is available at Amazon.com here.
This book should be required reading for the media before they write a single story on the church.
And in case you live under a rock here is the sketch in question from the review:
The list from the Church would likely be longer.

There is one issue I am unable to grasp, the Catholic Church as done great things for Civilization yet how has it come to pass that in America 50% of WEEKLY Catholic goers voted to empower the most extreme infanticide president in American history?
This question tortures my soul because I wanted to believe the Sanctity of Life meant something more than money, power or government goodies.
It is one thing to argue ‘safe but rare’ or ‘free will’ or ‘personal choice’ however Obama argued several times that the baby must be forced to die if it survives the initial abortionist’s intention YET a majority of Catholics in America empowered this man?
It is torture to me every time I think about the infanticide President because I do not understand what happened to the faith which brought great Civilization to the world.
I think the real problem is many Catholics are not practiced in their faith nor are they instructed properly in it.
I think those were the wages of “reform”
